Crib Mattress sits on frame brackets??

I have the Graco Lauren crib and I just went and bought a Serta Perfect Night mattress for the crib.  It seemed to fit perfectly, but then I noticed that the matress isn't actually sitting flat on the frame.  It is sitting up some because the brackets that hold the frame into the crib are in the way so the mattress is mostly resting on the brackets on at least two corners.  In order to get a mattress to fit in between the brackets, it looks like I need a 26.5 width mattress or narrower, which seems impossible to find and I am worried will leave too big a gap around the crib.

Has anyone else had this problem with this or any other crib?  How did you deal with it?  I have seen one person online that changed the set up so that the brackets are actually below the frame instead of above it, but that does not appear to be the proper installation and I am worried about if that will cause safety issues or make the crib too shallow once the baby can sit up.

Any thoughts or suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!!

  • You should be able to give it a push and it should fit.  It's snug around those brackets, but it'll go flat if you push on it.  I agree that a smaller mattress would leave too large of a gap.

  • There is a review on BRU of this crib that says the directions for how to attach the brackets are wrong, and that's why mattresses don't fit. They need to go under...or something...vs. on top of the box spring. Go look it up - the guy even posted pictures of how it should be done so that the mattress properly fits.

  • I think that you installed the brackets and frame incorrectly.  My H did this when he set up our crib too, it's likely you have it upside down.  Call the company and have them clarify exactly how they should be installed.  (My crib is a different brand than yours but I've seen this happen to other people too).  On mine, the mattress rests on top of the spring frame, it does not go into it (which is what is sounds like you've done- meaning you have it upside down).
