Totty's post about the crusty nipples reminded me of this.
My milk dried up when I was about 2 months pregnant and I noticed that my breasts got significantly smaller immediately afterwards, but in the last week or so they have been swelling and I am having a lot of pain in what I think are my milk ducts. I never had this with my other two pregnancies.
Anyone else experiencing something similar?
Re: ? for those that were nursing when they got pregnant
Ive noticed my milk drying up but my colostrum hasnt come in yet (I dont think...). With my dd is came in early, around 4 months! Dd's still nursing, theres a TIIIIIIIIINY bit there but barely any. Like if I squeeze to extract only a dop or 2 will come out when before I couldve been a foutain. Lol
I havent noticed any change in breast size though. And shes cut back her nursing a LOT because of the milk decrease.
Are you still nursing? Im curious as to whether any moms are considering tandem nursing?
I really wanted to continue nursing, because my goal was to nurse David until he turned 2, but there was no milk at all and I was getting the most horrible sensations when he was trying to nurse and nothing was coming out. We had to stop when he was 19 months.
I had bought the book Adventures in Tandem Nursing in preparation and was planning on tandem nursing, but will not now because there is no way DS will know how to properly latch by the time this baby comes. I would love to send you the book if you're interested in it. PM me with your info if you would like it.
I actually have that exact book. LOL Thanks anyways!
Im planning on letting my dd self wean. She doesnt nurse much now at all, really just to go down for naps, at nightime, and when she wakes up. Its more of a pacifier comfort thing at this point than a nutrition factor... At least until more milk shows up.
She had gotten upset when my milk first dried up- "Oh no! It broke!" Talk about got me upset.
I had gotten sore nipples too which seem to have gone away again... We've also had to put restrictions on nursing for my sanity. :P
My boobs were pretty much back to pre-pregnancy size when I got pregnant and kiddo was nursing 2-3 times most days. We are down to 1-2 times most days now (mostly just in the morning as he seems to have lost interest in bedtime). Some days he'll randomly ask for other times too - like twice already this morning?
I've noticed in the past week that I'm starting to get a tad bit fuller so about the same timing as last pregnancy. I never grew a ton though while pregnant before. I still have some milk it seems - I can get some drops out after he nurses so somethings there. I've been really lucky not to have any pain or discomfort thus far. Oh, and I haven't started leaking at all. I never leaked last time while pregnant but was a big leaker once my milk came in (and really for the first year almost).
I'm open to tandem nursing at this point. For a while I was sure we'd end up there because kiddo was still so attached. But now that he's starting to back off on his own, I'm really just hoping to make it to 2 - and then we'll see.
Cute side note...he recently has started bringing me his doll or stuffed animals to nurse (wants me to nurse them) - which makes me hopeful that he won't be too upset about sharing "his" milk!

I ge tthe let-down sensation too. I start to freak out, thinking I need to get home to nurse my son and then I remember that I no longer nurse him. lol
So strange.
I wonder if it's one of those things you only notice because you now know what it feels like? Kinda like how many 1st time moms never notice Braxton Hicks but most 2nd timers do.
I'm sure it's just your boobs "remembering" faster too since they've recently been in action ;-)

I wondered this, but at least in general, it is just a different feeling. I was in constant pain with DD - I couldn't think about not wearing a bra. Now, I have no pain, just every so often - this random let down feeling or a pain on the side like a clogged duct. Who knows really - I'm just surprised to find this a different pregnancy than with my first! I was just sort of expecting the same deal - which is has been in general - just much, much harder on me than it was the first time. It seems like every symptom is exaggerated this time.
