speaking of older generations and BFing

I came across this article about PET pushing formula on this family who had black quadruplets in the 40s. I had never heard of this story until this week and found it quite sad and disturbing.

Re: speaking of older generations and BFing

  • Their story is pretty sad. I didn't notice if it said how their other children fared?

  • It sounded as though cancer ran in the family but wasn't specific on how the other children fared. It would make an interesting documentary.
  • wow.  that's really sad :(
  • Definitely a sad story.  I do think it is a little irresponsible to imply that their breast cancer was related to the formula.  It is very sad, however, how they were exploited by PET and used to market formula to a demographic that couldn't really afford it.  It seems like the very people who would benefit most from breastfeeding (those who are poor) are often the ones who use formula - often provided by WIC.  I have seen several cases where no one tells them why they should breastfeed.  But I won't get on my soapbox about that Smile

    I couldn't agree more.

    The story is very sad.
