What names are too common?

Whenever I hear someone say they are naming LO Aiden I cringe knowing how common it is.  I could be alone in thinking that going to school with 10 other Aiden's wouldn't be great.

What name do you think is too common these days?

Re: What names are too common?

  • Aiden for me too! Along with Brayden, Hayden, Kaden and Jaden.

lol, yea.  DS is a Hayden, boy was I upset to find out how common it became.  We thought we were so clever in picking that name...  oops.
  • Right now?  Nathan for a boy, Olivia for a girl.
I know they're not the #1 names, but EVERYONE lately has been naming their kids that!

This!!  My husband and I bring this up all the time!

  • Addison, and anything that starts with a K.
  • Olivia, Sophia, Isabella, Abigail

Can't think of any boys' names

  • Twi-tard ....er... I mean Twilight names... I feel bad for one of my gf's whose got an Isabella.  She gets the "oh you named her after that chick in Twilight." "No" she says, "my daughter is 4 loooong before the movie."

  • I would agree with the Aiden Brayden Kaiden Jayden names. Not only are they too common, but I can't freakin' stand them. Totally NMS.

I would have to add Jack, Jackson, and Emma to the list of too common names as well.

  • Fi and I were just talking about that when three moms at the pumpkin festival last weekend all had boys named Aiden in the little hay maze they had set up. My first name is Amanda. You can find one of us EVERYWHERE. Why do that?

Same thing with Ella, Emma, Grace, Jackson (with ten million other spellings) Ethan, and Jayden (with another million variations).

  • My DH and I like the names Olivia and jackson, but Olivia is pretty popular right now, and our dog's name is Jack, so might be a good idea to avoid naming the kid after the dog. Just some random thoughts.

Popular names around here is Cade, Caiden.

  • Aiden seems extremely popular on the bump, but IRL I would have to say Ava, Sophia/Sophie and Abby.

  • Aiden/Caden/Jayden- whatever combo and spelling you can make... I can't stand any of them and they're *everywhere*.

Also Jackson or Jaxson (I know 2 that spelled it that way).

Sophie/Sophia/Olivia/Ava and more specifically; Ava Lynn. I've known 4 Ava Lynn's born in the past 2 years.

  • My sister-in-law/best friend is named Olivia and when we learned we were expecting a girl, I wanted to use Olivia as the middle name. But then we found out how common it is (#3 in US in 2009), and decided against it. Same with Chloe (#9 in US in 2009).
  • We are going with Adelaide, after DH grandma. I know that Addie is a common name, but that is okay with me becuase she will have a full name that has meaning.
  • Mason...way too popular. It is so bad my daughter has to differentiate, using neighbor Mason, cousin Mason, reading Mason, math Mason, Mason on the bus that does not live next to us, etc....

Brianna is way to popular as well.

I rarely see a child my daughters age with her name. I have yet to see anyone post they are naming their child the same name I am using for this child.  Hopefully my names won't become crazy popular.

  • emily, sophia, isabella...yuck
  • Definitely Jackson! And Aiden and Olivia and Isabella.

I always think it's great that my boys will be the only ones in their class (Richard and Merrick), but with my luck there will be another one and he'll have to be Richard M.

FWIW, my name is Kristina, and there were a trillion Kristin, Kristine, Kristel, Kristy,  etc., and it was kind of annoying but not the end of the world :)

This! I know so many couples who have named their daughter Ava or Bella.... Also, Addison seems like a very popular name right now.

  • I was never really that bothered that Abigail ended up being #4 the year we named DD#1 that. It still really is way less than 1% of the population, if you look at it that way.

I don't think DD#2 will have any problems with popularity, lol: Briony.

  • Aiden, definitely.  It was cute and original 10 years ago.  Now everyone is so over that name.  For a girl, Riley.  I don't like the name a whole lot to begin with, but around here there are so many Riley's.  I could probably name 5 that I know personally.

  • Jayden, Caden, Braden are really popular here.

Kaylee, Cailey, Kaylee, however you want to spell it are so popular here. At one point in my preschool classroom I had 3 Kaylee's. All of them spelled their names different and two of them had the same last initial. It was a pretty confusing year. lol

  • You are the first person on The Bump that I have seen who has picked the same name as me, so I think we make a great choice in picking a name that won't be overwhelmingly popular!  =)  BTW, my name is Jennifer and my husband is Michael... it doesn't get any worse than those two names.

  • I love the name Jacob, but DH saw that it was #1 most common and then I realized, of course it is. I can just see our son's kindergarten classroom divided down the center with half the boys named Jacob and the other half named Edward with a few Cadens thrown in for good measure, while all the girls are named either Isabella or some form of Renee/Esme and all their middle names are Grace, of course.
  • Madison & Mason
