Twins HATE tummy time :( What to do??

My twins hate tummy time.  My DD is pretty strong though and has nice head control and core strength.  She's getting better with her pushups.

DS is still a bobble head.  He's got to improve his head control and get some strength - core and pushup strength.  The problem is, he hates tummy time and protests so much that he rolls over.  (That's good, but he gets out of tummy time!!)

Ideas??  Push him to do it, whether he likes it or not (it frustrates him and make him cry) or just do it till he gets upset?

  • Lisee HATES tummy time, but I do it with her anyway.  Pedi told me that it is important to do, so do it in short intervals, but let her cry if she is crying.

  • Have you tried laying down next to him and shaking different toys near his face? singing? You can always have him lay on your chest, that counts as tummy time.  (I have a little purple ball that lights up, a rattle that makes noises and lights up, etc. It seems to work with regards to distracting her from what she is doing- tummy time)

With DD1, she wasn't a big fan of tummy time. So I would do it for two minutes several times a day.  I figured she could at least tolerate it for a couple minutes.  After about a week or so, I started doing it for longer periods.

I don't remember how old your LOs are but is he old enough to sit an exersaucer?  That also helps build the core muscles.  It's not recommended until they are at least four months though.

Just keep trying it.  I know it's annoying to hear them cry but it's important.  GL!

  • My DS has always hated tummy time.  I do it in brief intervals, because he usually gets upset and just puts his face to the floor.  I have just worked on his head control in other ways.  I pull him up from laying down to sitting (and now to standing).  He also used bumbo chair (first with support).  Also, he goes in the jumper/saucer.  I started those with a pillow behind his head and now I just put a blanket in there with him.

All those must've helped because as of a few days ago, he began sitting unassisted.
