Grandmother's name: Evelyn - too old fashioned?

My husband and I are thinking of using my Grandmother's name for our DS. We'd name her Evelyn with the nickname Evie (e-vee). He's actually more in love with it than I am. My Grandmother was a pretty spunky woman so the family would get a real kick out of passing the name down, but I'm wondering if it's too old fashioned to pin on a little girl? Your thoughts would be appreciated!

Evelyn is one of the fastest rising names right now. I don't think it is considered old-fashioned anymore; at worst, it might be thought of as "granny chic."

It's the first old lady name that came back into fashion (in my stint as a name nerd and thanks to the movie, The Mummy). It's a lovely name on a little girl - some go by Evelyn and some go by Evie.

It's actually pretyt popular with namers too - it ranked #39 in 2009.

I don't think it is too old fashioned. I am named Evelynn, and I love it. I was in school with a lot of Ashley's and Brittany's. I loved having a name that wasn't over used.

i HATE the whole old lady trend....but i wouldnt put Evelyn in that catagory i think it is a nice name.

Wow! I haven't spoken to anyone else about the name in an attempt to keep it a secret so I had no idea that it was popular or even on the rise. Once we decided to use family names I just never checked out the top 100 names lists, but I'm glad it's gaining again! Thanks for your input, I'm feeling pretty confident we've settled on a great name with lots of good family history.

It was DH's grandmother's name and he really wanted to use it. I liked it, but didn't *love* it when we chose it for one of our girls. However, after she was born, I really fell in love with the name. It's just a very pretty, feminine name.

My Grandmother's name is Evelyn also. My aunt got Carlyn (My Grandpa is Carl, and Grandma is Evelyn) and my mom's middle name is Evelyn. Granted, my mom and her sister are in their 50's, but I still love the name. It might just be because of my Grandma.
