How do you get your kid clean in the tub?

I cannot for the life of me get DD to sit still and actually let me wash her from head to toe.  We clean a little here, play some, get an underarm clean there, play some more, maybe get one butt cheek scrubbed, etc.

I feel like I'm constantly spot washing this kid because she won't let me wash her down good in the tub.  I give her a fairly long bath to let her bum soak and I soap her down and try and clean her as best as possible but she's constantly pushing me out of the way to get to her toys.

Help.

  • I have the same problem!  I try to scrub her as best as I can, but I'm sure I miss a few spots!

  • I don't give DS any toys until I'm done cleaning him.  It takes about 3 minutes.  I wet him down while the tub is filling, soap him up from head to toe, then rinse.  DONE!

    THEN he gets to play.

Oh well aren't you smart.  Big Smile  I will have to try that tonight.  I can see this being a fight the first few times when she gets in and there's no toys in there.

  • Maybe try to clean her first before giving her the toys to play with.
  • We do the same thing.  She'll usually sit still long enough to let me wash her belly, then play, wash her back, then play, then get a limb or body part at a time from then on.  Hair is the trickiest.  She lets me wet some of it, then basically runs from me while I wet the rest.  She'll let me get shampoo in, but then rinsing it out takes forever!
  • I don't let her have toys until we are done bathing.

She also helps shampoo her hair. And I put toys in the soap holder up high and tell her to look for them so that I can rinse her hair easily. She's old enough to understand now that if she doesn't look up, she gets soap in her eyes, so she is generally compliant with that too.

you could try just one toy for distraction but them hold the rest till clean thats what we do.

  • DS loves to play with cups in the water coming out of the spout, so while he does that I wash him off quickly...we have two big cups so we trade off filling them in the water and I rinse him and he just plays with the other cup...I also make him stand so I can get his bottom and that area....he doesnt get to stand other than that so I think he likes that he can stand up for a minute, its really what he wants to do the whole time LOL
