I can't help you there because I didn't start cloth diapering until after my c-section had healed and I could easily do it.
But I believe we changed DS about 10-12 times a day- I have no clue how often the nurses did when he was in the nursery. HTH. Also- I had a c-section and we were there from Thursday morning to Sunday late afternoon.
I don't have experience with this yet either, but I know that they tell you to expect one wet/dirty diaper for each day of life, so I don't know that you need to change them 10-12 times per day right off the bat. Others can probably be more helpful.
I waited until the meconium was out of her system to start. That stuff is super sticky and a PITA to wipe off her little bum. So we started cloth at the week 1 mark. We just used the hospital diapers the first week... we we ran out, cloth went on.
I waited about a week to start cloth too and that is our plan for baby #2. Honestly, you will have so much to get used to throwing dirty cloth diapers into the mix is just one more thing to deal with. The first few days of poo are pretty sticky and the belly button will have a clamp which is awkward. My DDs legs were so skinny even XSs or Os were too big.

Totally inaccurate in my experience. We changed DS about 12 times a day in the hospital!
