ETA: Is it pronounced like aura with an M in the front

or

like Kara with an M?

    I pronounce both Mara and Maura as Mar-ra

    The spelling Mara reminds me of Mara Jade from Star Wars (yes, I'm that nerdy  lol) so I like it  :)

    It's my friend's little sister's name. I like it. Her middle name is Jane.

    I know three and all use the Mar (rhymes with Car)-uh

    My brother considered Maura with his baby. rhymes with Laura

    my friend is Moira. Moy (rhymes with boy)-Raa

    It is pronounced Mar-uh.  It is Hebrew and means bitter.  We just studied this in my bible study class.  I actually really like it as a name.

    That's my niece's name - Mara Jade Lastname. My BIL is that nerdy too. Smile

     My niece is called mar-rah

     

    Then I have a cousin named Mara and her name rhymes with Sara. So I think you can pronounce it either way, but my cousin is constantly correcting people because the 'sara' pronunciation is not assumed from the spelling.
