fibromyalgia and pregnancy

Can anyone please help me??? I am currently waiting to see how far along i am but the dr seems to think i am between 10-12 weeks. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a couple years ago. I know it is normal to be achy during pregnancy in the body but it seems that my fibro has overlapped and made these things worse. So what I am asking is if anyone can help me figure out how to deal with this or if anyone else has this????

Re: fibromyalgia and pregnancy

  • well i hope you have a good experience!! it really is hard to deal with so much physical pain and being so worn out twice as bad every day!! i am sure it will be worth it! i never had a doctor for my fibromyalgia i was always waiting on treatment and after being told i would never get pregnant and me thinking i wouldn't, i ended up here lol.

  • I don't have fibromyalgia, but I do deal with chronic pelvic pain. Anytime it got unbearable, pregnant or not I called my doctor and went in to discus the best options at that time, whether it be physical therapy or medication. Give your doc a call and let him/her know what's going on. In the mean time, take it easy and try to relax. Maybe try some classical music? That often helped me to relax, which resulted in a bit of pain relief...not a lot, but it helped some. I hope you can get to feeling better soon.
  • I have fibromyalgia and a spine disorder. I would give your doctor a call. They should be able to help come up with something to help. Earlier in my pregnancy, I was having more flare-ups than I have now so hopefully things will get better for you. Good luck!

  • Thanks guys! I've had fibromyalgia for quite awhile and and i also have always had severe menstrual problems and I am definitely going to call my doctor Monday as soon as they open. I have only seen my midwife once because of finding out when i was a little over two months pregnant and i go for my sonogram Wednesday. I definitely need to tell them though since i forgot!
  • Be open with your doctor about any and all medical conditions.  You might want to try some prenatal yoga classes... I always felt like stretching and breathing really  helped with my fibromyalgia during pregnancy. :)  Good luck!
  • I will and i don't know what to do bevause i can barely get out of bed at all.
  • do yoga classes cost money because i have none
  • I have fibro and this is my first. I have PCOS as well which made getting here difficult. I hurt so bad all the time. I can't take the meds I used to for pain mgt. I hope there is something that helps. Good luck.
  • I've been diagnosed with fibro since I was a teenager. When I became pregnant with my dd three years ago I stopped taking all my medications (savella, sleep meds, and ultram for pain). I've been med free since then with the occasional use of ultram for bad flare ups when not pregnant. I still have rough patches, bad days, flare ups while pregnant. I think it's important to let yourself rest when you need it, but once you start to feel even a little better get up and go for a slow walk or shop or something to get your body moving again. In my experience, the longer I remain stagnant and give into the pain and exhaustion the longer it's going to take to feel better. Prenatal yoga is also great - try YouTube for some free videos to do at home. I'll also add, that I felt pretty great when I was breastfeeding my dd for 13 mo - all those relaxing and milk producing hormones were like natural pain relievers.
Hugs to everyone dealing with this, fibro sucks - no way around that. Hope you all feel better!

  • My fibro/IBS with my daughter was so much better.  I felt great, had no flare ups, and had a perfectly healthy pregnancy.  This time, I have definitely been having a tougher time.  The IBS is unbearable at times, the fatigue is 100x worse, the aches and pains are awful.  Just try to do what you can to get through it.  I've heard youtube has some good yoga/prenatal yoga stuff, so maybe you can do that to save money.  Definitely talk to your doctor.
On our way to baby#2!  Praying for a healthy and happy delivery next June!
