2nd Trimester

Way TMI...

3 suppositories and 2 enemas later, I finally feel human again. I never thought I would say this, but I would SO take morning sickness 24/7 over that pain again. Looks like a prune juice and all fiber diet for me from now on. lol

Anyone else get backed up THAT bad? Or am I just the freak in the crowd? lol

  • wow, that's crazy!  i've never experienced constipation in this pregnancy.  i do know fiber does help, i put it in my diet and go like an average of 4 times a day

  • With my first 2 pregnancies (both girls), I was sooo constipated. I was always pregnant around Thanksgiving time and I remember eating a lot that day and still not going til like 4-5 days later! Now, with this pregnancy (boy) I got on a regular basis! Which is Awesome but sometimes its like too much, maybe twice a day. Weird.
  • Hmmm sign of a girl perhaps? That's what DH and I are rooting for anyway lol

  • Hmm, I have not been backed up that bad but it does take 3 days usually between er, the moments. It sucks!

  • Good luck! I'm sorry you had to go through that! I've been using something called CALM, it's a water-soluble magnesium powder. I started using it a while ago for leg cramps and anxiety, and found out a pleasant side effect, not getting backed up. Try raw or sprouted almonds too, I swear they're awesome. But you need a generally good fiber diet. Make sure you incorporate veggies in your diet, or at least drink fiber because you don't want to have to deal with this through out your pregnancy! So, CALM, sprouted almonds-expensive but worth it, and good eating. Good luck, hope the rest of your pregnancy goes much smoother.
  • My midwife said that I should be drinking 6-8 oz of 100% prune juice mixed with 6-8oz of 100% apple juice every morning!  She also said to enjoy a small cup (less than 12oz) of regular coffee each day!  I have been doing both and I could not be happier!  I was miserable with constipation before this new regimen.  I hadn't been having any caffeine and the coffee has been a huge help! 
  • OMG.. I so feel your pain.. literally. I was that backed up last night. I had pain SOO bad it was hard to stand.  I evetually went (I had drank prune juice earlier and think it kicked in).

     I usually eat a fiber muffin everyday but towards the end of the week I didn't have any and I didn't get any at the store. Grr

  • I was like this in weeks 7-18 of my pregnancy! I even went 30 days without a BM one time, and the night before I went to the ER I did 3 suppositories and 6 oil enemas in ONE NIGHT. It didn't help. Th ER gave me some Mag Citrate to drink, and that didn't kick in til a week later! They refused to help me much though. I was drinking enough water and eating as best as I could, too.

    Really, I decided to start going on walks with my kids. Even a half hour walk in the morning (having had a HOT cup or 2 of coffee before) was enough to get me going. No pills I was given helped. I helped myself.

    Holy cow!!! I thought I was bad. I think I'm gonna try the coffee, I thought I was being good staying away from it and my beloved Dr. Pepper! lol I got some prune juice to try as well....we will see how it goes.
