New to The Bump

Mom-to-Be??

First of all HI! I'm new to The Bump and this is only my second post. My first was on the TTGP boards, but the ladies over there weren't real nice about offering sincere, helpful advice. Soooo let's try it on the newbie boards.

So. Here's the deal.

My fiance and I have been TTC for the past few months. I sorta kinda keep track of my BBT, but not really. We just have fun and horizontal mambo whenever the mood strikes. On Oct 1, I started my period. Right on schedule.

September 28- 30 = mild bloating, occasional mood swings

October 1 = Debilitating cramps (which has been the norm for over a year)

Oct 4 = Period ends.

My period usually last for 6-7 days. Weird, right? About two weeks later, all of my bras are KILLING me. Not tenderness in the breasts, which is a common "you're pregnant" symptom. No, they're just growing at a ridiculous rate. So I researched "Signs of Early Pregnancy" and these are the symptoms I am experiencing.

Extreme, inexplicable fatigue

Enlarged and/or Swollen and/or Tender Breasts

Shortness of breath

Frequent urination

Nausea

Then, on Oct 27, five days before I SHOULD start my period, it starts. Brown-ish/pink-ish discharge that has already stopped two days later. No bloating, no mood swings, and the cramps are so mild compared to what I'm used to, they might as well not exist. So yesterday afternoon, I took one of the two tests that came in the kit I bought. Negative. Then I realized two things:

I didn't test with the first morning urine (didn't know you had to)

I drank a 24 oz. soda RIGHT before testing

The blue line in the result window was very faint. And I feel that I have too many symptoms to ignore. Am I  pregnant, a wishful thinker, or could something else be wrong?

Re: Mom-to-Be??

  • A few things:

    1. You had a period. Just because it was a few days shorter than usual doesn't mean anything.

    2. All those symptoms I have experienced when it was physically impossible for me to be pregnant. And you're more aware of your body now that you're TTC.

    3. You don't have to test with first morning urine.

    4. Define "drank a soda right before testing". If it wasn't long enough to get to your bladder, it's a moot point.

    5. You say you had a blue line in the result window. What kind of test was it? Double line? Plus sign? Are you talking about the control window or the test window? This is very important. Because if there was a line of the kind to indicate pregnancy in the test window, no matter how faint, you ARE pregnant.

    6. My advice? Take the second test tomorrow morning and go from there.

    1. I shouldn't have started my period yet, it was a brown/pink discharge five days before I should have started.

    2. True, I am WAY more aware now than I ever was.

    3. The test says to take it with the first morning urine if you're testing before your missed period. And since I think the bleeding I'm experiencing is from implantation, that's why I tested.

    4. About a half hour before the test.

    5. One horizontal line is negative, plus sign is positive.

    6. I am definitely going to test again because I FEEL pregnant. I've been in this situation before, but with none of the aforementioned symptoms, one of which I forget to mention: a dull, throbbing pain in my lower bac.

  • I lurk a lot on the Trying to Get Pregnant board, and I saw your post. I know it seams like they are being mean.. but most of the girls on there have been trying to get pregant for more than a month and most of them are really into charting, tracking and learning about your fertility and so I think they come across harsh because they don't realize for a complete Newbie, these aren't obvious answers. Also if you get a chance to read the "Newbie Info" at the top of that board, you would see your post includes all the cliche questions that get asked a ton of times. Anyways that just my opinion.

In answer to your post.. I would say definately take a test again in a few days use the first morning urine and keep your fingers crossed. No one online can tell if your pregnant becuase every person is different and experiences periods and pregnancy different. Hope it helps, sorry for the long reponse but since you look legit I thought I should post to explain the reaction you got and that a lot of the girls were prbably harsh because they thought you were just making up your question to annoy people or get a laugh.

    1. I shouldn't have started my period yet, it was a brown/pink discharge five days before I should have started. Not the latest spotting, I'm talking about your last period.

    2. True, I am WAY more aware now than I ever was. Yes, and sometimes it adds enough stress to throw things off a bit. You can have picture perfect cycles until you start TTC, then all of a sudden they're not so perfect any more.

    3. The test says to take it with the first morning urine if you're testing before your missed period. And since I think the bleeding I'm experiencing is from implantation, that's why I tested. Testing with FMU is fine, but it's not mandatory for a positive test. And only 3% of women have implantation spotting.

    4. About a half hour before the test.

    5. One horizontal line is negative, plus sign is positive. So you had one horizontal line? Then you're not pregnant.

    6. I am definitely going to test again because I FEEL pregnant. I've been in this situation before, but with none of the aforementioned symptoms, one of which I forget to mention: a dull, throbbing pain in my lower bac.

  • I experienced some of the same symptoms as you. My first indication that something was going on with my body was that none of by bras fit anymore. I took a test last week and it was negative. Figured that my "symptoms" were probably in my head. Took another test this week and got a positive!

I would recommend waiting it out a few days and testing again.

That's good to know. I feel like I'm being attacked when all I really want to know is if someone else has gone through the same ordeal! :-P Thank you!

Thanks for your response. I only ask because the women in my family are notorious for getting false negatives on PTs. I just want to know if anyone else has experienced all these symptoms and still gotten negative results, only to learn later that they really are pregnant.

  • Well now you're just fishing.

With your luck, you're probably pregnant and just don't know it yet.
