Hey ladies!
I have a question about dirty diapers. My son was born Tuesday night and is breastfed. My milk came in overnight two nights ago (Thursday into Friday). He has had plenty of wet diapers, pretty much at every feeding, which is every 3 hours. However, he hasn't had many dirty diapers. He had a dirty diaper Wednesday afternoon and then one at 6 a.m. Thursday morning.
He hasn't had one since then. He's eating well and seems very content. Sleeping peacefully between feedings and he's not fussy. He has been gassy and had a very short fussy period overnight where he was very gassy. We rocked him and he got his gas out.
Should I be concerned? He hasn't had a seedy mustard poop yet. The last two were transitional, so I wonder if he's gearing up for that seedy mustard poop? Anyway, if you can offer any advice, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!!
Re: Poop question
We experienced this same thing the first few days after DS was born. He did not poop for a whole day and I was really concerned. My pediatrician that came to the hospital said it was fine, some babies may go 2-3 days and it is fine as long as their belly is not hard/distended, abdomen is tender or you see any blood in the stool. I found that hard to believe but that is what he told me. He said if I get concerned to add 1 TBS Caro syrup to his bottle as a laxative or stimulate his rectum with a lubed thermometer (just barely sticking it in the rectum). In this situation he pooped w/i 24 hrs and he was fine, but I have done the Caro syrup once at home and it worked well.
I am not comfortable with him going more than 24 without a poop and it has since not been a real big issue. And i have since changed pediatricians. However, It is not abnormal for him now at 3weeks old to only have one large BM a day.
If hes content I wouldnt worry, plus for BF babies this is normal. He may go 20 times a dat or none, but I would get ready b/c if hes like my DS he will eventually go alot, and alot of times.
That's what I remember.
P.S. I love your son's name
Thanks!
And of course, a couple of hours after I post this, he had a great transitional poop. So relieved! Thanks ladies!!
The two men in my life. Oh, and I have a husband too...
