XP: Snot & Congestion

Are any of your lo's congested or snotty? E got a little congestion last Sunday and now I feel like I am constantly sucking snot out of his nose. He is sneezing quite a bit too. Should I call the pedi? Do you think its a cold or is it normal for babes to get snotty? His nose isnt running, its just snotty and I can hear it sometimes when he sneezes it up. He also sometimes coughes after he sneezes cause he sucks the snot back in. Thoughts? Do you think a humidifier would help?

Re: XP: Snot & Congestion

  • Ha!  My LO turns 1 month old today and she woke up congested too.  I asked 2 friend with kids older than her and they said this is pretty much when their LO got their first cold.

GL and I hope your LO is better soon!

  • My LO is really bad also.  She started yesterday and all night I had to suck out snot all night.  She's very congested with a runny nose, just hoping she won't get a fever.  If she's not any better by monday I will be calling the Pedi.

  • This happened to our LO right around the same age. Our pedi recommended that he sleep sitting more upright, she even suggested him spending a few nights in his car seat, unstrapped and padded, that actually did wonders. Newborns are congested as is, but if there is snot, it is probably the first cold. We live in SF, so she said a humidifier wouldn't really change anything, but I noticed he slept better with it and also, when I would take a shower I would bring him in the bathroom with me and have him sit in his bouncy chair, so he could breathe in the steam, I still do that, even though the cold is over, because he still has congestion. Hope LO feels better.
  • We are going throught the same thing. My twins both have reflux and with that it is normal for them both to sound congested (no snot though). I asked my pedi about it, he said it is normal for babies to get congested because their nasal airways are so small and I could try some lil noses drops to clear them.
