I was gearing up to start our 2nd IVF cycle yesterday. Went for my baselines and they called back and said that my fsh came up high (17!) and they want me on bcp for another 2 weeks and then re-start. I've never had a high fsh in all these years! I'm 32 and always had a very good ovarian response. I was in shock last night. What is this about? Has anyone had a high fsh suddenly for no good reason (they clinic is baffled itself). Anyone re-tested at re-start and fsh was back to normal? I'm really worried and upset now. That's one thing I didn't expect.
I married my best friend 6/24/07. Started TTC.
Ectopic pregnancy found at 6 wks 5 d.(methotrexate shot on 11/21/07).

Re: high fsh out of the blue? Help
Well, I don't know about high FSH out of the blue, but BCPs will bring it down, but it doesn't really mean that your FSH is down. When I am on BCPs, my FSH is very low. But really, it is high. The BCPs stop you from producing the hormone that makes your FSH high.
FSH is an indicator of ovarian reserves. BCPs aren't going to change your amount of ovarian reserves.
