2nd Trimester

Anyone Take Progesterone supplements?

Hi, I'm from the 1st trimester board, but I am looking for ppl who may have had low or dropping progesterone levels.  I'm 5 weeks preg and my levels went from 25.5 to 16 in five days.  Dr. prescribed 200mg oral tablets to be taken every 12 hours.  He said that it could preserve the pregnancy, but no guarantee.  Anyone else have a similar experience?

  • Yeah I took them from the very beginning, until about 12 weeks or so.  Everything is fine with me (knock on wood).   Wishing you a healthy pregnancy!

  • Yes, my progesterone was down to 11 when I got on supplements. I weaned off of them at 14 weeks and everything has been fine so far. I'll get checked again at 30 weeks since low progesterone in late pregnancy can lead to preterm labor.

  • Thanks, it's reassuring to hear success stories.  My HCG is normal, so hopefully this will take care of it.  After 14 weeks did your levels stabilize or something?  What did your levels drop to before you began the supplements?

When you enter your second trimester your placenta takes over producing progesterone and other hormones, so usually it's enough to get off of the supplements. Mine was still on the low end of normal so we're just going to be extra sure and test again.

  • I took them from 3 days post ovulation until 11 wks. But I took them as suppositories and my dose was a little higher. I was doing it prophylacticly (sp?) after a previous loss where I had very low progesterone! And so far so good!

  • I used the suppository one instead of oral. My progesterone at the first test was 12.6 and the suppositories helped raise it. I was using them twice a day until close to to 13 weeks

  • Thanks so much it's such a relief that this isn't necessarily the end!  I think I'll call Mon. and see if he'll switch it to the suppositories.  Right now I'm feeling soo drowsy from the pill.  I don't think I can hold my eyes open much longer...I can hardly type!  Thanks again, I feel so much better.  Blessings!

  • I took the 100 mg suppositories twice a day, from trigger until 10 weeks, when I went down to once a week, and then to every other day, and then done.

They have had a lot of success with Progesterone in preserving pregnancy. Most REs will put patients on them regardless of their levels (true for me, I never had an issue with Prog. levels that we know of, but they feel it can only help).

  • I was on progesterone suppositories twice a day for the first trimester of both of my pregnancies. I took them right from the start until 13 weeks. My levels were lower than that starting out, too. All is good:) I definitely believe they work!

  • Yup-- I took them.  1 suppository at bed time each evening.  Same board - my progesterone dropped in the 8th-ish week and I took them till 2nd trimester.

Just had my anatomy scan today -- DS#2 looks healthy and definitely active (the technician really had to work hard to get all the images).

     Best wishes!
