Re: Plus Size Girls?

  • We were just talking about this last night, there are a lot of us. I will speak for myself only, cause I know there are varied opinions on this. Yes, I am concerned about TTC. More than one doctor has warned me about the added strain on your body when you are overweight and pregnant, the increased likelihood of complications, namely gestational diabetes, and difficulties getting pregnant in the first place. I was also told there is increased risk of miscarriage, and of ectopic pregnancy. One doc told me that losing a few will help boost your cycles, and help with ovulation. Now, I have seen plus size girls get pregnant, but I've also seen some have trouble. So, yeah, I have concerns.

  • Oh, and I am putting TTC on hold until I lose some weight and have normal cycles.
  • I have concerns as well, but I eat healthier and try to be more active.  I have never had any complications from carrying extra weight, no cholesterol, High BP or other issues.  I am concerned but I also know plenty of people who carry extra weight and don't have a problem.

  • My doctor never had an issue with my weight - I have on the other hand.  It's been my one struggle through out my life.

I lost 23 pounds during the summer, gained back a few.  I started cracking down a few weeks ago and am down another 11.

I've read that even losing 5-10% of your body weight will help with TTC.  However, when I was a teenager/early twenties I was in good shape and still didn't get a period on my own.

  • my doctor says i'm very healthy other than the extra weight and that she wants me to gain only about 15 lbs when (and if) i get pregnant.  i have pretty regular periods, so i don't think that's a problem.  she did give me a list of foods she'd like to see me eat more of, and i have been trying to follow that.  so i think i will take problems IF they come, not wait for them to come, or assume that every bad thing will happen because i am overweight  (if that makes any sense)
  • I brought up my weight when I went to my check up in May. I am worried about my sugar levels and gestational diabetes as I have hypoglycemic moments if I don't eat regularly. I work at a health dept. so I had our diabetes nurse check my sugar one morning when I came in for work. It was 107 which according to her books was on the high end of ok. But my OB/GYN said that was on the low end of high with 10 being the cut off. She recommended I get a glucose tolerance test done but I have not done that yet. And last fall I started Weight Watchers but stopped after 3 months because I couldn't go to the bathroom without taking a lot of laxatives so I have maintained in the last year. My BP is good and I have since then cut out sodas and almost only drink water, milk, and sometimes juice. I may drink a soda once a day. I bought a BubbaKeg that holds 32 oz. so I know I will get my daily water amount if I drink two cupsfull throughout the day.

  • I am about 100lbs overweight.  I came into this world at 9lbs 15 oz (no, that's not a typo) & 22"; I am now a size 24 & 5'10".  However, my bloodwork is impeccable (my PCP said she's jealous of me & she's a tiny thing) & I've been about the same for over 5 years she sees no big issues with TTC so long as I don't gain tons of weight during the pregnancy & stay active.

I am not afraid of fruits & veggies since both DH & I are vegetarians.  Since going off BCPs in June (this is our first cycle TTC; we're used condoms in the meantime to let my body get back to normal) all my cycles have been 28 days.  Also, I bought from O sticks & they say I O around the time I get temp dips on my charts.

Really, the only thing I am concerned with is GD; however, my mom (also very plus size) didn't have GD with her pregnancies, nor did her sister who is also a big girl.  My mom did have gallbladder issues with my sister but she never associated it with being plus size.

  • My doctor told me that I need to loose 15 to 20 lbs at my last appt. Since I'm TTC. Well the next week my 200+ overweight cousin announced that she got pregnant two weeks after stopping her BCP!

That's kinda a kick in the face?!
  • 15 or 20. I would be damn overjoyed if I was only 15 or 20 lbs overweight. I would probably dance naked in the street. haha

  • I'm plus size and I have concerns about TTC. DH and I have started walking and I'm going to exercise more. I've also started trying to eat better. My mom was overweight when she had me...and she actually lost weight during her pregnancy, as did two of my plus size friends. I'm pretty healthy but I still have concerns.
