Babies: 0 - 3 Months

working moms & working out

When are you working out? i go back to work next week and between getting everyone out the door, going to work on time in the morning and getting dinner ready, kids fed and showered... I have NO clue how i'm going to manage trying to get back into shape. :(

How do you do it? I have to be at work by 8 and will get myself ready before taking the kids to daycare. It seems impossible to get up early to do it.

Re: working moms & working out

  • Let me just start by saying that I haven't had my baby yet.... but this is what a couple of girlfriends do. One works out during her lunch break - kinda grosses me out because I get too sweaty and don't think I have time to shower and get back to the job in time but she does it ALL the time. Another works out after work but before picking up the kids. A few have joined gyms that have child care and they just bring the kids with them to the gym. One of the little boys LOVES going to the gym and even asks if they can go on the weekends because he likes the other kids that are there!

Good luck and I know you can do it! It will make you feel better and be a better mom and wife!

  • Are your work hours flexible? such as starting later so you could get a early morning workout in. Or a longer lunch to workout at lunch. I would find it hard to get a workout in at lunch unless I had 1.5 hours so I could shower.
  • I'm crazy (but I was before the baby, so no big change) but I go to the gym at 5am.  I'm usually up by 4:30 to pump, at the gym by 5, work out for an hour then am ready for work by 7.  There's no way I could work out at lunch since an hour isn't enough time to get in a good work out and a shower.  Working out after work has never worked for me since I'm always able to find an excuse not to go (I'm too tired, I have to make dinner, I have to work late...).  I imagine that will only be amplified now that DS is here.

Truth be told, I have started work yet.  I go back next week, but have been doing this schedule for a while to get DS, DH and I used to it before I really go back.  So far it seems to be working.

  • 5 AM and I are best friends - that's all I'm saying...

  • I don't work full time, but what I did before I got pregnant again to exercise was to go for walks with DS in the carrier. Walking with the extra weight made a huge difference. Plus DS LOVED it, so it was a win/win all around.

  • With a long work day, long commute, and getting 2 kids ready and out the door. I have no time. I'm up between 6:30-7, out the door around 8:40, home by 7-7:30, in bed around 10:30-11. NO TIME. Sucks.

  • With DS #1, I would go directly after work and just have DH pick DS up from daycare.

  • I feed DD around 7 or 7:30 then I put her in her swing while I work out. It's not as great a work out as I was gettign at the gym but I do it every night...where I was only doing the gym 4 times a week. I really miss my classes at the gym though. DH and I talked about switching on and off so we can both hit the gym a few times a week. The hard part is we really like to have dinner together.
  • I work out after the girls go to bed.  Jillian and I have a standing date at 8:30pm.

  • My gym has infant childcare so I'm able to take her there and workout and shower.  Depending on what time I'm working, it's either in the morning or evening.  If I didn't have that, DH & I would have to rotate the gym time, which is what we did before she was old enough to go.  I'm excited too for when she's old enough for a jogging stroller.

  • As soon as I get home from work I take both kids out to DH's shop and I lift on the BowFlex.  DS1 plays and DS2 sits in the bouncer, then I come in and cook supper.  Both kiddos like getting out of the house so that is good for me, but I don't know what I'm going to do this winter when its too cold to hang out in the shop.
  • Agree with the 5 a.m.-er. That is the only time you have time and don't have other excuses.  I run 3x a week - two week mornings and a weekend run.  Would love to run more, but just don't have the time.  A comprise for the next few years I guess.
