another s/o birthday presents

A friend of ours just received a birthday invitation for their daughter to attend a friend's party. The invitation specifically stated that they should bring gifts, that they would prefer clothes, what sizes the child was and asked that everyone include a gift receipt.

Needless to say, they politely declined to attend:)

Who raises these people?

Birthday parties have gotten so out of hand. Some parents treat them like sweet 16 parties. It's ridiculous. I have also heard about birthday registrys, Ugh tacky!

I actually have a friend that created a "registry" at Toys R Us for her daugher's first birthday party. I thought it was a little presumptuous. She said she did it that way so they would not get a bunch of stuff they don't need, but I remember thinking it was wierd.

I totally would have gone. And I would have bought the worlds most obnoxious toy. Something that is really loud and annoying and has lots of glitter and makes a huge mess. Just because.
