3rd Trimester

kick counts

My daughter does not move as much in the morning as she does in the evening. when should I be concerned and contact my GYN? A few weeks ago she was moving like crazy. It has slowed down a bit since then. I have my next growth scan on November 4th. Can it (should I) wait until then?

Re: kick counts

  • As long as they are moving every day it doesn't matter what time.

  • ok, my doctor said 10 kicks before noon and 10 kicks after noon. Just did not want to cry wolf just yet. Thanks!
  • It never hurts to check with your provider if you're concerned. But most babies have their own routine. If she's always been an evening mover and continues to be, it's the consistency that's important. Also, as you get further along, her movements will likely be less dramatic (as she runs out of room). Your doctor probably told you to do kick counts trying to get at least ten in an hour (some may say two). Lay on your left side, and I've found it helpful, esp. getting further along, to put my hand on my stomach, where I normally feel movement (like where her feet are). And don't count hiccups. You may be able to sense more movements that way. But as long as you're hitting the target the doctor set for you, even if it takes a bit longer, I think most providers are totally fine with that. And as long as the heart rate stays good at appts. too.

  • My LO hardly moves in the morning as well. He is very active in the evening.
  • Mine is the same way. Then there are some days when she barely moves all day long. She is just starting to run out of room and doesn't move as much, that's what my MW said. She said if I don't feel her move at least 3 times during the day though, then to call.

  • My MW told me she wants to hear from me if its less then 10 movements in an 8 hour period. My little one moves more at night as well, so during the day at work I have to make myself stop sometimes and focus to see if she is moving around in there.
