2nd Trimester

I need advice

I have a pretty big problem with my work I need some advice. We are open 24/7 and have to bid for shifts based on when we was hired. Anyways the shift I will be stuck with is going to be 430pm to 100am. I am at 16 weeks and this just seems like way too much stress not only will I not be able to see Greg at all but my sleep schedule is already completely out of whack. Anyone have some advice??

Re: I need advice

  • Find another job?  I don't know what you want us to say.  Work it or don't.  It sounds like there is no option to change shifts.

Get another job? Talk to your bosses? Talk to HR? Get a doctor's note? Get used to the hours?

I don't really know what else to tell you.

This. People do this all the time. I had a friend who worked the overnight shift while pregnant. It just is what it is.

Right now my DH works 3:30PM to 1:30AM. I work 8:30AM-5:00PM. DH works everyday except Thursdays and Fridays. Those are the only two days I see him, and I only see him after I get home from work. It sucks, but we are working it out.

Once you get higher seniority, I assume you will be able to get better hours.  Just keep looking forward to that. At least you aren't stuck forever.

  • I understand how awful it can be to get told what your permanent shift is going to be when you have no say in it.  I would see if there is anyone who would like to trade.  That would be the most logical place to start.  Then maybe try it out for a few weeks and see how you adjust to it.  It really sucks, but sometimes you don't have a choice.  If you are still having trouble then I suggest talking to your boss about your options, whether that being having your doctor provide a medical reason why you can't work that shift or seeing if anyone else can switch.

That's a pretty sucky shift, but you might just have to suck it up until another shift comes along.

  • People work late shifts, and even worse swing shifts.  If you don't like it there isn't much you can do at that job.  There is no medical reason for you not to work it.  Your options are to suck it up or get another job.
