I just saw someone post a link to this crib on another board. I will not be doing a bumper and so I like the additional wood at the top to keep there from being so much "bar space" if that makes sense. Thoughts?

Re: what do you think of this crib
we got our cribs from JCP and love them.
Since you're not doing a bumper I think the extra wood would be nice. Will it block you from being able to see the baby when s/he is sleeping in the crib? That would be my only concern. But it looks like if the pic didn't have a bumper you'd be able to see above the mattress but below the wood bar.
I'm lame and love to see their faces when I walk in in the morning and see them standing there smiling. That wood would probably block my view.
We have these from JCP and love them!

I noticed this even on high end cribs with we looked at in the baby furniture boutique. For this reason we ended up getting a solid wood crib with a natural finish; I knew that no matter how much I liked the crib new, I would hate it if it was scratched up.
Our JCP cribs scratched when putting them together. We paid $125 for each one, so I wasn't sweating it.

we haven't had any scratching with our JCP cribs, maybe it's less noticable in a non-wood finish? IDK, but we've had no issues with them and for the first month they were assembled we dragged them all around the room in different configurations (sometimes I even pushed them across the room with my feet if DH wasn't home to help me try stuff). And still nothing!
If you are looking at cribs and are concerned about $$ (we were definitely concerned b/c we had to buy two) don't buy the convertible cribs, which can be pricier.
For us, personally, I didn't want to be stuck with a "lifetime" of furniture. And we'd never put our kids in full size beds when they were older (just require too much space). By giving up the toddler bed and full size headboards that come as part of the 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 crib set ups, we were able to save a few hundred $$
HTH!
That does help, I have thought about this alot. The two I am considering from the boutique are not convertible. Honestly, I think I will want to get different furniture later for the kid and if we have another would like to use the same crib again. Plus I wouldn't be as worried if it got scratched up.
