Anyone use the personal shopper at Buy Buy Baby?

I see that Buy Buy Baby offers free personal shoppers. Has anyone used this service? Was it worthwhile or just a sales pitch? DH and I are the first of our friends and family members to have a baby (at least since we were born), so we don't have anyone close to use that we can bring to help us sort the necessary from the excess. I understand that Buy Buy Baby is in the business of making money, so their shoppers aren't necessarily going to tell us not to buy a lot, but DH and I are starting with no idea and are a little overwhelmed.

Also, I have read Baby Bargains, so maybe that is enough. Would love your thoughts!

Re: Anyone use the personal shopper at Buy Buy Baby?

  • hmm, I've never used one at Buy Buy Baby, but I have one at a department store who I always go back to. I love her, she knows what I like and saves me stuff from the sales rack before my size gets cleaned out.

I'm kind of skeptical about Buy Buy Baby though--it doesn't seem like the personal shoppers there would have a lot of motivation to get you coming back to them again the future (how many times to people really need a personal shopper for a baby? just the first time, right?).

But maybe you should try it and let us know how it goes. :)

    There's no obligation to buy!

  • I did not use the personal shopper because my boss did and she said they did try to recommend a lot of the expensive stuff and she had to go back 3 different times because they were taking forever.

I was there with my husband for about 3 hours and we were done. If you have questions there is always someone walking around to help!

  • Hubs and I used the personal shopper at BBB only because we had "issues" when registering for wedding gifts (took us multiple hour long trips..we argued..etc, etc). I figured that we could utilize the personal shopper and if we didn't like what he/she suggested, then we didn't have to put the item(s) on the registry.  We were in and out of the store in about 2 hours and that includes stopping in every section! Now don't get me wrong..they do try to push items on you (e.g. the Peg Perego high chair which is not only super ugly but super expensive) but you can always say no to their suggestions and put what you want on YOUR registry. I also went home afterwards and removed some items that I didn't think should be on there such as breast pump accessories (I just think WE should purchase those items ourselves) and some items that didn't get good reviews. Overall we were extremely pleased with our personal shopper and I highly recommend scheduling an appointment with one. Saved our sanity & probably our marriage...

Also, the personal shoppers seemed to know more about the products then some random BBB employee that I have flagged down in the stores before.
