Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Speaking of grocery cart covers...

Are they really worth it?  DH and I didn't think that we would get one.  Afterall, DD will always pick up plenty of germs from the daycare.  Now I'm having second thoughts about flu season.  She's got about two more weeks in her infant carseat before we switch over.  Has anyone gotten one and felt that it was a waste of money?

Re: Speaking of grocery cart covers...

  • I didn't find a use for it.  I got one, and it was too hard wrangling the cover & the baby, so I just keep Clorox wipes in my bag & give the cart a good once-over with those once I get him in the cart.

  • We received one as a shower gift and used it for the short time between her being in the infant carseat and now where she is too busy looking at everything around her to bother with gumming the rails or put her hands in her mouth.  Now I just wipe the seat area down with one of the clorox wipes they have at the store and put her in.  The cover was a bit of a PITA to manuveur.

  • Shopping carts are extremely disgusting. There are germs and diseases on them that Clorox wipes don't kill.
  • I love it as a "toy containing device."  At restaurants and the supermarket, she's always dropping toys.  I'd say about half land in the Boppy protect me.

As for germs, I actually think it's more useful at restaurants.  Restaurant highchairs are extremely disgusting.  I'm not sure they ever get washed.  So having a layer between her skin and the nastiness is nice.

  • totally worth it....P will try to bite the handle of the cart Ick! and that is just nasty when you think of everything/everyone that touches it.  (people, raw meat, milk, etc...)

also i just park next to the cart corral put it on the cart while P is still in her carseat, keep it in the trunk and wash it once a week.  i use it at every store we go to that has a cart--totally worth the $ if you ask me.

we have the floppy seat cover--fits every cart we have come across.

  • I have one and I use it every single time. as T said, there are germs on those carts that a wipe won't kill. Now that flu season is coming upon us, it was especially worth the $15 I spent on it.

Plus, it keeps DS from trying to eat the bars, and ours has toy handles plus a big pocket for snacks and a drink. it comes in very useful to keep DS entertained with all of his stuff.

  • We most definitely use it on shopping carts, not on high chairs though, mostly because they are too busy eating to suck on any part of the high chair, but the shopping cart, that's a different story. So I always carry it in my car for when I need it.

  • We used ours one time and didn't think it was worth the hassle...at all! We've never used it since and we don't use high chair covers either.
  • I use mine on long shopping trips mainly for entertainment. You can attach toys to the one I have. It also catches the snacks when they fall... Smile

I also didn't spend alot of $$ on (I think it was $10 at Ross).

  • We use ours all the time.  I keep it in the car.  We also use the same over to cover high chairs at restaurants.
  • I think it is a must have!  We use ours every time and also put the same cover on high chairs at restaurants.  We just leave it in the diaper bag or car so we always have it.

Your daycare should clean off toys daily, but stores and restaurants rarely clean off their carts and high chairs.

  • If I was putting him shopping carts more often, I may have considered buying one.  But so far I have put him in a shopping cart only twice (DH does the grocery shopping), and just used the Clorox wipes.  At restaurants we always bring his own booster seat.  So for us it's just not worth it.

  • I don't think they are worth the hassle.  I had one with DD1 when I was paranoid over every single thing but I gave it up after a few months and never used them at all with DD2 or DS.

But, then again I don't even wipe down the seat or handle.  I'm just not worried about it.

  • I used it quite a bit when DS was first riding in carts, but rarely use it anymore. It was just too much of a PITA to hold a wiggly baby and arrange the cover. I just wipe the cart down with Clorox wipes (I love that most stores have these now!) and plop him in.

  • The couple of times that I haven't used mine, DS has sucked on not only the cart, but the straps they have on them to buckle in your LO if you don't use your own.  I try to keep it away from him, but it's like he waits for me to reach for something.  Absolutely disgusting. There's no way to clean those.
  • I like it to keep DS from sucking on the stroller.  I still have caught him but there's less of a chance.  Also we have some toys on ours which I imagine COULD come in handy....DS is SUCH a wiggler that it's not enough for him though!  I fight the entire time to keep him in!  He always wants to STAND UP in the cart and yes he IS strapped in good and tight but I have a little houdini.  What a joy shopping is when you have to keep a hand on LO AT ALL TIMES and keep pushing him back down into his seat!

  • I used one for a while, but I've lightened up now. I don't let her suck on the straps or any part of the cart, though. Also, when I was a baby I'm sure I sat in plenty of carts with no cover or Clorox wipes and I turned out pretty okay. Stick out tongue
  • We used it for about a month.  I haven't used it in a long time now.
