Austin Babies

Would you go?

We have the opportunity to go to Bora Bora and Tahiti next fall but the kdis would stay here with my mom or we'd have MIL come out and stay with the kids.

The trip would be amazing. We'd be staying at the Le Meridien in an overwater bungalow with glass bottom floors, my BF and her husband would be there too. It's one of the few places I haven't been that I have always wanted to go.

My reservation is leaving the kids for 2 weeks and being 17 hours away from them if anything were to happen. Also we are planning on moving early next year and moving into a much bigger house with a bigger mortgage so that also stresses me out even though financially we would be fine taking the trip.

 So dear nesties  WWYD?

Re: Would you go?

  • Can you go but maybe cut the trip a little bit shorter? That might help the budget and the reservation about being gone so long.

  • I'd go in a heartbeat.  You won't get many opportunities like that.

ditto.  my sister went last year and said that going there is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  also, i don't think you'd want to cut is short since the flight is so long and the flight is so expensive.  go and see it all.  and don't feel bad about it either.

I mean, WOW. I'm just the teensiest bit jealous of you right now. (Sarcasm, I'm EXTREMELY jealous of you). If I could plan my dream vacation .... it'd be that one.

  • 2 weeks is a long time on Bora Bora... We did 1 night in Tahiti, 3 nights on Moorea and 4 nights in Bora Bora and were getting bored.  It's a really small island - can drive the whole thing in ~1 hour.  Is Le Meridian on a motu?  If so, I definitely think that 2 weeks is too long.  You'll go stir crazy after the first week.

Other than that, I'd say go!  It's a really amazing experience, and if you do go and want some recommendations, let me know!

  • For serious, do whatever you have to do to GO. You will never, ever regret taking a trip like that.

And if you don't go, I'll happily take your spot.

    Dear Bump: You suck.

Yep.  I totally understand your reservation about being gone so long, because I know I'd feel the same way.  But it IS a once in a lifetime opportunity, and if I had someone I completely trusted to keep DS for that long, I'd definitely go.  I also agree that 2 weeks is probably the right amount of time (maaaybe 10 days), because you'll lose at least 2 days traveling each way - we looked into going to the S. Pacific for our honeymoon but decided against it because we could only take a week, and we would have been spending half of it on airplanes.

droooool.  This is where I wanted to go, but we couldn't afford it and "settled" on aruba.  Although I'm super excited about Aruba - THIS is making me swoon.  If you don't go - I think I'll shed a tear for you!

  • I would go in a heartbeat.  Yes, it would suck to be gone that long from the kids. But that is an amazing opportunity.  And it's only 2 weeks - not 2 months.  I left DD (with DH) when I went to Africa.  DD was 18 months old and I was gone for 2 weeks.  The time really did just fly by.  And DD did totally fine. And am sure your kiddos would too - and probably have a great time w/ the grandma too.
  • Yes.  But I'd probably make it 10 days, just to not be gone quite so long.

Where did you go in Africa? I went to Cape Town and Port Elizabeth about 6 years ago. It was an amazing trip.

  • If I could swing it financially, absolutely.
  • I wouldn't go for that long, but I would go for a week to 10 days.

The other things that would keep me from going (H was still nursing at L's age, we've still never been away from DD overnight) are a non-issue for you so otherwise I say go!

Yup those are the 2 resorts we would be staying at. Aren't they amazingly breathtaking!

  • Hell to the yes. Let's face it, in 50 years, you're never going to look back and say "I really regret going to Tahiti and Bora Bora for 2 weeks because I missed my kids when I was gone." However, you would say "Man, I really regret turning down that trip!"
