If you do not pay for a seat for your baby can you still bring a carseat for them to check? Does it count as separate luggage? Also, what about the stroller? Also, I'd appreciate any traveling by plane suggestions for a 6 month old.
I like to sit on the aisle so that we can stroll up and down when the baby is fussy. Make good friends with the flight attendants. If it's a long flight a box of chocolates goes a long way in buying a little extra service and patience. I spent a few hours hanging out in the rear of the plane in their prep area once because my LO didn't like sitting still in the seat.
You can still bring the carseat & stroller and gate check them. It does not count as extra baggage. If you use a snap n go I would say take that rather than a normal stroller. Otherwise you're pushing the stroller and carrying the carseat all while trying to navigate the airport- too much. The only thing I would recommend re flying is make sure you're nursing or giving a bottle for take off/landing. Makes a huge difference!
You don't have to gate check the carseat - you can check it at the counter so you're not lugging it through the airport. We traveled when DD was about 3.5 months, and used the snap n go, so we gate checked it and the carseat. I'll be traveling with her next week and since she'll be in a convertible, we'll check the car seat at the counter and use an umbrella stroller in the airport.
If you had bought a seat for baby, then you would keep the car seat (whether infant or convertible) to use on the plane. Hope that helps!
