moms who hate character clothing

just curious if this extends to diapers as well?  I know that Pampers has the Sesame Street characters on their diapers and I think that Huggies uses Mickey Mouse...so how are your feelings on that?  Or do you use store brands to get around your character hatred?

Re: moms who hate character clothing

  • I'm not a huge fan of character clothes, but when we were in WDW this summer they had some really cute Mickey Mouse shirts, and DS fell in love with him, so it didn't "irk" me like, say, an Elmo shirt does.  So, he has a few MM shirts, and now he has a shirt from his "Day out with Thomas".  He loves Thomas, so I'm okay with that one too.

Diapers don't bother me in the least since they are worn under his clothes.

    This.

And we recently switched to a more organic diaper so no more elmo.  Duder pointed to pooh bear on the outside and said "what dis?"  I said "pooh" and he said "poo?!?!  no not poo!  it clean!"  I tried to explain it for a good 5 minutes before I just said "it is a bear" and a he stomped off mad and put it in the trash because he thought the diaper was dirty.  Oy.

  • I'm not a fan of character clothing, although we did get a few pieces of Pooh stuff as gifts, and a couple Elmo and Bob the Builder shirts as hand-me-downs. My general rule of thumb is that I don't BUY character clothes (at least, not yet, and will hold out as long as I possibly can), and the few that he has are "play clothes". As for the diapers, I guess I'm a bit hypocritical, but I never gave it a second thought. We love pampers, so that's what we buy, and they just happen to have sesame street characters on them. Doesn't bother me at all.

    Too funny!

I try to say "Pooh Bear" when I'm talking about Pooh, as to not confuse the two.  ;)

  • The diapers don't bother me.  They aren't seen by the general public, so I don't feel like my kid is a walking billboard.  I too have caved regarding pajamas.  Someone gave the kids matching Pooh and Tigger pj's last year and even though the kids didn't know who those characters were at the time, this started the character pj's trend.  Aside from Pooh, I think we only have one set of Minnie and one set of Tinkerbell pj's, so we're still not inundated.  DD cares much more about this than DS, so he doesn't have any character pajamas right now.  MIL got DS a Thomas outfit lastyear and even though he LOVES Thomas, I usually only put it on him on days that we were going to get extra dirty.  I do that with many things MIL buys that I think are ugly.  :)  As you can imagine, we did not buy the t-shirts available at A Day out with Thomas, this year or last.
  • this. exactly.

  • I guess if someone hates character clothing, they should be glad that the character diapers are going to get peed and pooped on.  Kinda like revenge.

  • Nah.  Different story.  They're wearing it under their clothes and it's going to get shat on.

  • I'm not a fan of it, but she's in disposables so rarely that it doesn't really bother me.  I'm usually more annoyed that she's not in cloth than worried about what's on the disposable.

This plus we use cloth diapers so I hardly ever have anything with pooh or elmo on him.

  • Yes, I am totally bothered by it. The rare times we used sposies it was a non-issue because of the brands I bought, but I hate that they're on diapers to begin with. It's not because of what they look like, it's the marketing to children that I don't like. I am adamantly against marketing to children so I avoid hose types of things as much as possible.

DD does have some Dora panties, but they're cheap and uncomfortable so she doesn't reall care.
