I've asked about recommendations for daycares in the Lake Oswego, Tigard area, and now I'm leaning more toward in-home daycare facilities or a nanny/babysitter.
Is there anyone in the Portland area (and surrounding areas) that have used any in-home childcare? I'd prefer someone who is licensed and limits themself to 2-4 children. Another thought I had was hiring a nanny and or babysitter. My only concern with that is all the damn Lifetime movies and news stories I've heard of women who get angry at the child and cause harm. That scares me to death!!
I may be a little crazy about this, but childcare in general just makes me extremely nervous and the daycares are just so expensive. I'm totally stuck, please offer some advice! Or if you know of any GREAT babysitters in the area that you love and trust, let me know.
ps
I may have mentioned this before, but I will only need it 3 days a week. My mom is watching our son on Mondays, and I plan to take Fridays off.
Re: Another childcare question...
I use an inhome daycare and LOVE it. We've been using her for about 14 months now, and we are very very happy. We found her on craigslist.
Honestly, everybody is a stranger at first. Email a bunch of people and just talk with them. Also, have lengthy phone conversations. I talked to probably 15 women on the phone and narrowed it down to only 3 that I wanted to meet in person. As soon as I met our provider, I knew that she was "the one". She reminded me of my SIL and I just instantly liked her.
Our setup is like this... our provider has 3 daughters. The oldest 2 are in school during the day, and the youngest daughter used to be home all day, but just started part time pre school. Then our provider watches my daughter, and another little boy.
We pay $25/day. Our provider (and her husband) is licensed with the state. Also she does claim the money that we pay her on her taxes, so we are able to use a flex-spending account (which is AWESOME and saves us a ton of money!). Her SIL and MIL provide back up care if our provider is sick or on vacation, and that's a fabulous benefit. There's only been 1 day in the last year + that I have had to take a day off work due to daycare issues.
I love the in-home atmosphere, my DD has a "family" around her all day, and she's used to playing with kids of varying ages.
