2nd Trimester

I hate you, heartburn.

I was unaware that I could feel this strongly about heartburn.  I have been a lifetime sufferer, but it's really something now.  I get heartburn without even eating anything that should give me heartburn.  I think the biggest problem is that I can't take all the usual remedies while pregnant, and tums just don't seem to be cutting it.  On a positive note, big ultrasound tomorrow!  I am definitely also asking the midwife about this stupid heartburn.

Re: I hate you, heartburn.

  • Milk.  Whole Milk.  I go through a gallon every 3 days.  But, I have also gone to using Zantac.   And I had a friend who used Prilosec during her pregnancy.  Just talk to your doctor.  Most acid reflux meds are okay during pregnancy.

  • I took some Tums and it helped me...Im starting to worry its not on the approved list since it hasnt been mentioned yet! ><

Can I just say, I might be the first pregnant lady to have every symptom listed in these damn books. Hi, my name is Charlotte. I joke daily that I take more meds now that Im pregnant than before (because yes, I hated taking medicine until now)...

  • I feel the same way.  Asked my doctor about it today and he told me to start taking Prilosec.  I sure hope it helps...at this point I just don't want to eat or drink EVER.    And I'm like you, Tums do nothing to help.

OH! Sorry, I just read it too fast. Im sorry Tums isnt helping, Id be miserable if that were the case :(  All of the other OTC heartburn medicines only work real well if you take them over a period of time. If one doesnt work right away, try to keep tough and repeat it for a couple days.

  • I will ask my midwife tomorrow, and hopefully she has some amazing idea for me.  The worst part is that I not only get heartburn after eating, I also get it when I haven't eaten in a while.  Now I have hungry heartburn.  Thanks, baby!
  • I never had heartburn until my pregnancy and ahhhhh, this is horrible!!! Hope you find some actual relief soon.

  • I also have had acid reflux for a long time, and now it's just plain evil.  I get the kind that makes you throw up (because morning sickness isn't bad enough on its own).  I take OTC Pepcid AC max and Tums EX (which really don't help).  And while I'd like to think that dairy would help cool the burn, it usually makes me feel a lot worse.  My OB said yesterday that I could double the OTC dose, and if that doesn't work, they'll prescribe me something.  I keep telling my husband we need to invent some kind of esophageal plunger to push the acid back down and seal it in the stomach!
