So DH's grandpa is William, and my grandpa is Jospeh. We're traditional folks around so William Joseph is high on our list of names. Tonight my husband asked if we would call him Billy Joe. No offense to any person that really loves that name - but I'm not a big fan.
If we call him Will - others will, too - right?

Re: Will they call him Billy Joe?
hahaha What?! You dont like Billy Joe?! Hehe
Yeah, definitely, people will follow if you nick name him Will. The *cutest* boy grew up down the street from me named Willy...honestly its the parents that have issues with names I think. Kids dont notice!
That's my husband's name too! But there is a death penalty in our house for calling him Jim Bob.
I think people will call him whatever you want, and eventually whatever he wants. When I hear the name William, I don't automatically assume the person goes by Bill.
My name is Catherine. People would sometimes ask if I went by a nickname (I didn't), but otherwise they called me by my full name because that is how I was introduced. Except, of course, for my uncle who still calls me Kathleen (and spells it with a K).
It might be regional...I can't see anyone where I live, in the Northeast, calling anyone "Billy Joe" if his first name is William. Will or Bill would be more likely.
Yeah, I'm also from the North East and NO WAY would that really be a consideration that anyone would think of on their own. Most people follow the parent's lead, so if you say Will the world will too. :-)
After two losses, third time was a charm.
