"Spoiling" with naps in swing?

Wondering if I'm sliding backwards here. DS used to take every nap is his bassinet (I'd only get 45 mins each time, but he'd sleep in there). Lately, he's not wanting to nap in the bassinet past 2 pm - he'll howl every time we put him down. So, we've ended up putting him in the swing to sleep - sometimes he'll sleep 20 mins, some times more.

I'm worried that now he'll only want to start sleeping in the swing - I just don't want to have that battle of transitioning. It's like we're going backawrds as he get older. Any thoughts?

  • Oh goodness I hope not! Otherwise, I may be raising a swing junkie - she too used to take naps in her crib, and now it's the swing or nothing. But, at this point I'll take what I can get.

  • With my first DS he slept in the swing for every single nap from 2 months until about 4 1/2 months.  He always slept just fine in his crib at night.  I think he just eventually outgrew wanting to nap in the swing, so maybe your LO will too?

  • my little one will only sleep in her swing. i talked to my pediatrician about it and she said it is perfectly safe but to start switching some of her daytime naps back to the bassinet and she will eventually go back.

This is our little guy, too... He'll nap really well (1-2 hours) in the swing or in the stroller, but only about 45 minutes (sometimes) if we put him in the crib. But, he doesn't fuss at all in the crib at night so I don't really worry.

  • My LO used to sleep in her swing, but my pedi told me to stop that right away and put her in her crib to nap.  I was worried about that because when I tried LO would cry, she said it's ok at 2 months to let her cry for 20 minutes and see what happens, if she's still crying go get her, but if not then you succeeded!

I can't bear to hear my LO cry for 1 minute, let alone 20...wow.
