2nd Trimester

do you wear a bra?

Before you think I am a crazy hippster girl, let me explain lol

I have been on full bed rest for 5 weeks now and my mom continues to remind me to wear my bra for the sake of my boobies lol I have not worn one at all... These tatas are now at least a 34 D, started off as a 34 B, and the last time i went in for a fitting at vickeys about 6 weeks ago and I have outgrown the 34 C. I am afraid to say that the bra no longer quite fits and not leaving the house anymore the pushup quality means nothing to me.

My question for you is this: should I be wearing a bra?? Secondly, since I need to buy a new one, should I buy a nursing bra at this point? How much bigger are they gonna probably get? I am 25 weeks pregnant now. Any recommendations for a nursing bra? i saw some nice ones at Target that were Gillian O Malley, has anyone tried those?

Re: do you wear a bra?

  • I'd say it's up to you. I am more comfortable in a bra but I assume you're laying? I don't know if bed rest really means in a bed. Unless you're standing all day your body is supporting some of that weight and if you're going to get stretch marks you will with or without the bra.

I wouldn't suggest nursing bras yet though. You don't know how big they'll get during the rest of the pregnancy and it's normal for them to increase yet another cup size when your milk comes in.

  • I got the basic cotton nursing bras from Motherhood and I love them.  They are super comfy and they fit like a tank top.  I still wear them when I am lounging around the house.

  • I have to wear a bra, they are just too heavy & hurt if I don't have some support so I change into a sports bra & a tank w/a built in bra as soon as I get home. And I wouldn't go for a nursing bra yet, you're still going to get bigger (especially after the baby comes & your milk comes in) so they'll be obsolete anyway.

  • I would be afraid I would get saggy boobs without one.  I have heard that not wearing one can stretch out the ligaments.

I went from a 34b/c to probably a 36 E when nursing.  I nursed for over a year and my breasts went back to the exact same when I finished.  Not saggy or any stretch marks.

I did not like nursing bras, but I loved nursing tanks.  I bought a bunch at Target, but this time I am going to splurge on a few glamour mom ones because I nursed so long and I wore them 24 hours a day.

  • Those bras look comfy.. and that it might fit for a while yet.. Yes, bed rest for me is in the bed laying down full time. Right now I can be up showering and making meals, et cetera for up to one hour per day as long as I dont have contractions. i dont like to feel constricted, so i definately am looking for a bra that fits not too snugly..
  • If you want to be comfy you could get a couple sleeping bras.  I wear those at night or when I have a lazy Saturday or Sunday where I know I am not leaving the house and love them! They are super comfy.  I got two from Motherhood Maternity for like $14 each (I believe they were on sale at the time) but I think regular price they are $16 or somewhere close to that.

  • Ooo, I'd say get in a bra for sure. I am too at home all day and really all about comfort but it's necessary to keep that bra on! I am still just stuffing my boobs into my original bra (a DD) because I refuse to accept that they've gotten bigger so no real good advice on a new bra. Good luck and get to lifting stat!   :P

  • What about a good supportive nursing tank?? I have a few different brands. If you aren't up and about all day I'd think that'd give you enough support. Or maybe even a sports bra??
  • I am at the point right now where anything but a sports bra, hurts!!!! I have been living in sports bras for the past 2 weeks.  They are fabulous!  I sleep in them too :-)

  • Ive been wearing Fruit of the Loom sports bras (withouth the razor back) 3 for $10 at Walmart. I wear them 24/7. Super comfy.
  • I'd wear a bra. During the day I'm in normal bras but at night (and sometimes during the day) I'm in sports bras. They are sooo comfy!
  • If I'm not at work, I'm wearing one of these from Target (or a very similar one from Old Navy).  My regular bra doesn't hurt yet, but the cotton and no underwire is so much more comfortable.
