Have you decided what TYPE of stroller you will get?

I have just started reading about the different types (travel system,active/all terrian stroller etc.) of strollers. I am not far enough into this research to even consider brands etc. But was wondering what type of stroller do you plan to register for or buy and why?  (if you know the brand feel share that to)  Just looking to get some direction as we start to look at some of the options over the next couple of weeks.

Re: Have you decided what TYPE of stroller you will get?

  • I went to a few places to "test drive" some strollers. I liked the UPPababy the best. It was lighter than most and it comes with a bassinet which i liked as well. 3 different car seats fit this stroller Peg, Chicco and Graco but you have to buy the adapter. I also like the Peg Skate but its quite a bit heavier.

  • i got the chicco travel system. its got great ratings and i fell in love with it in the store.

i had a graco system with DS and it just seemed to bulky and heavy. if you go with a travel system (which i suggest but alot of women wont) id go with the chicco.

target sells them online but i dont think they carry them in stores. and BRU also carried them.

  • I'm going with the Uppababy Vista. I like the feel if it, great storage, lots of features. The bassinet is sleep approved for up to six months so you can use it when you travel or go to someones house. The car seat options are good ones. It's easy to take down and take apart. It's well made.  I like that it will grow from infant to toddler and then once you have a second child you can add a second seat. Definitely go and test them out and take your time. I spent forever in the store taking them all apart and pushing them around. It's a big purchase so I wanted to make sure I like it. I probably looked like and ding dong but oh well.

I will always suggest "test driving". We decided since we've got 2 toddlers and another LO on the way that we needed a new stroller this time and a double at that. So we went out to "Test drive".  Chicco and Graco, are personal favorites for me for both single and double strollers.

In the beginning I'm just getting the stroller frame that I can place my infant car seat directly into.  I'm getting the Graco Snugride 35.

After awhile, I will probably go with a jogger stroller as the DH and I are avid walkers/joggers.

  • I like our graco metrolite stroller.

  • Early in my 2nd tri, I got the Britax chaperone travel system after I saw an amazing deal (the whole system for $300, when it's usually $500+) and then researched the heck out of travel systems and car seats. I bought it because I had decided I wanted a travel system and after research, I felt most confident with the Britax chaperone.

My advice? If you do go with a travel system, base your decision on the car seat, rather than the stroller. I lucked out. I love my stroller and cannot wait to use it (I've done several test drives). However, I'd care more about a safe car seat then just how much I love the stroller. Get what you feel comfortable with when it comes to safety. There are a lot of safe options out there. Oh, and I watched a ton of video reviews on top of just reading them.

    Good luck!

  • We're using the Baby Jogger City Mini as a 'travel system' with the Chicco infant seat.  LOVE it.  It's a very versatile stroller ... great for long periods of sitting, but also convenient and light like an umbrella.

I had the Chicco Cortina TS and HATED it.

  • I think we're going to register for two:  A lightweight stroller for walks (perhaps a Baby Jogger City Mini).  I want a stroller that you can use right away with a newborn, and I think that one fits the bill.  I think we'll also register for a lightweight umbrella stroller (perhaps one of the Maclarens).

We'll see, though.  We're actually going to go to BRU today after my appointment to look at them.

  • I am planning on using a snap and go after LO is born we had a Graco Quattro TS and while I still have the stroller we don't plan on using it we still have our Graco Safeseat which we will use with the Snap and Go for the first few months. DS was only in the stroller for a short time before we switched to the Graco Ipo umbrella stroller. We are thinking of eventually getting the Graco Quattro Duo double stroller though since DS still loves sitting in the stroller and we will need a double once LO # 2 is a little bigger.

  • DH and I are both thinking jogging/all-terrain strollers, simply because we live in a way rural area with literally no sidewalk around our house... also not big on the idea of lugging a travel system around.

He tried to sell me on one of those cheap-o umbrella strollers, so everything else is too complicated in his book. Stick out tongue

  • I have the Bugaboo Bee, which is great.  But I really wish that when I was pregnant with #1, I would have educated myself about the strollers that convert from singles to doubles.  If I had it to do over again, I would buy the Baby Jogger City Select so that now that I'm pregnant with # 2 (they'll be 18 months apart), I could just buy the doubles add-on stuff and not have to buy a whole new double stroller on top of my Bugaboo.  Something to think about if you think you might have #2 in the next 2 years or so . . .

I have the uppababy vista.  We didn't buy the carseat adapter for #1. Our chicco carseat set right into the bassinet or reg. seat just fine.   Granted - the adapter would have been less cumbersome on some outings.

We now have bought the carseat adapter and rumble seat for it so I can push both DD#1 and DD#2.    I love this stroller.

  • I only have a jogging stroller (BOB Revolution) because I only use a stroller for running.  If I ever need to use a stroller with kiddo #1, the BOB would do just fine ;-)
  • We are going with the Chicco Travel System as well. The car seat is one of the top rated in safety and the stroller itself was very responsive and easy to maneuver with one hand (very important). We borrowed our 7 month old nephew to try it out; we were told it may be different with a baby actually in the car seat/stroller and we still thought it was awesome.

  • We got the Bugaboo Cameleon. We really liked the euro styles with a bassinet for an infant that later turned into a regular stroller seat and we found one for a great deal so we bought it. We also have the adapter to snap on the graco snugride 35 which we registered for for when the baby is really small and dont want him to wake up getting him out of a carseat while doing errands, etc.

I have heard horror stories about alot of the big graco travel systems on how they are big and bulky and a pain in the ass. I have several people just use the snap n go system with the carseat and then switch to a light umbrella stroller if you do not feel like you will have the need for a full size stroller. We go to the San Diego Zoo and also the Wild Animal Park a ton which involves hours of walking, so we knew we needed something with storage underneath and smooth steering that would be comfortable for the baby for long periods of time but also light weight.

I have heard great things about the First Years Wave stroller, we almost ordered that one but went with the bugaboo instead.

  • We just bought the Valco Baby stroller which is a jogging stroller (although I doubt I will use it for that!). We bought it for how compact it is, and the fact that you can take off the tires if need be. We also got the Peg Perego car seat to go with it, the stroller has a car seat adapter. We love that the seat on the stroller can be reclined so it is laying flat if you didn't want to use the car seat when going for a walk, and wanted to take the newborn for a walk. There is also an option to get a bassinet as well that clips into the stroller. There are so many options, we love it! Good luck, it is fun looking for strollers!

  • Adding another vote to the Uppababy Vista for reasons previously mentioned. I fell in love with it when we tested it out in the store!

Prices for the 2010 should be coming down soon...after the 2011 are announced at some Expo this month I think. That's when I'm nabbing mine! From what I've read, the upgrades seems to be minimal aside from maybe a few more color choices. Soo, maybe it won't hurt the wallet TOO TOO much after that.

  • I love Graco travel systems because they are easy to mix around. By that I mean that the car seat can come with a swing frame that it can attach too. I think that is a great idea because when my little girl falls asleep in her car seat while we're driving, we don't have to wake her up transferring her to a swing or whatnot when we get home. We can just snap the seat into the swing. The system got great reviews (something I looked at a ton) and was able to cross compare with other system reviews on Amazon.com. I bet there are a lot of great options out there though. Happy hunting!

  • We are getting the Baby Jogger City Select as we are hoping to have two kids close together and this stroller provides a lot of versatility with two full size seats.  It will work like a travel system because we will get a carseat adapter for our Graco Snugride we inherited.
  • We're doing the Snap N Go with the infant seat.  From there we'll probably do a combo of some umbrella stroller and the Graco Metrolite (about 17 lbs as opposed to the travel systems which are close to 30!)

  • We just bought the Chicco travel system (early, I know.  But we had a 20% off coupon that expires this week!).  It got really good reviews online.  Originally I had thought about getting a Graco travel system, but when I saw them in the store they seemed a lot more bulky than the Chicco.  We will probably also get a Snap N Go for shopping, traveling, etc.
