2nd Trimester

GD Question

I made brownies last night. I had a piece with dinner and then another piece around 10 pm (a bad idea) with a glass of OJ (an even worst idea). I was super fidgety and jittery the rest of the night. I even had a hard time falling sleep (and lately I'm out on the clock before bedtime). I've never had such a strong reaction to sugar before. This isn't an impeding sign of GD to come, is it? And I've learned by lesson, but eating things like that doesn't cause GD, does it? :(

Re: GD Question

  • The foods you eat don't "cause" GD.  It's your pancreas and liver.

The foods you eat have to be controlled if you have GD, but you don't get GD from eating brownies.

Your pancreas has to produce all the insulin it can to combat not only the food you eat, but the glucose your liver secretes.  It it can't do that, you get GD.  If you have problems with insulin production, basically you have to cut your body a break and watch what you eat.

Your pregnancy hormones and placenta work against your pancreas.  Some women produce enough, and some don't.

I'm sure the jitters are coincidence.

One question... Brownie and OJ???  EWWWW!!  Brownies must be met with milk.

I was almost sure that I couldn't CAUSE GD. I just wanted to be sure!!! Thanks!!!!

And the brownies and OJ weren't at the same time. I follow the Brewer's Diet (I know you can tell with the brownie and all) and I hadn't had any Vitamin C yet, so I had to have a glass. Next time I'll just eat a red pepper at dinner. Problem solved.

But now I know what to eat on Thursday for my big u/s. Baby was going NUTS down there on the sugar rush!!!!

No truer words have ever been written!

OP - your reaction to the brownies and OJ doesn't mean anything in regards to gd. I personally would have felt ill from the combo, but it won't bring on diabetes.

This seems to be a big misconception about the ultrasounds.  You don't really WANT the baby "going nuts", because the tech is trying to take very precise measurements, and a baby doing cartwheels is not helpful.  Maybe for an elective, all the movement is fun, but most techs that I have (and Iget scanned every 3-4 weeks) prefer the baby to be resting or at least calm so they can do their job.

Otherwise, you get the "you'll have to come back for another scan because we couldn't get the measurements we need", and then you have to worry for however long to make sure all is well.

I like how you try to pull of "ethical background" as intentional.  There is NO way you meant to type that.

3.) Or how much weight you've gained (or lost). GD can affect ANY pregnant woman regardless of race, religion, height, weight, or ethical background.

Love this. Thanks for the good info. And I'm LOLing a bit at the fact that it can affect me regardless of my ethical background. Good and bad people alike can get GD!!

lol, I'm glad you "got" that! You don't know how many people have asked me if that was a misspelling ... hee.

Oh sweetheart, it was ABSOLUTELY intentional. Had you been around in the weeks surrounding when that PSA was originally created, you would've understood the origins of using "ethical" in that way.

Yes, it was intentional. You could be the best person on the planet and get GD. Or the shiittiest person ever and get it. GD doesn't discriminate ethics.  Stick out tongue

  • Uh huh.  Keep trying to convince yourself of that.
  • I know it's hard to believe someone could be as awesome and as witty as I am. It's ok. You'll figure it out.

I bet you're talking about me on your super special board now, aren't you?

LOL.  No.  You don't get to be "talked about" just because you want to be.  It doesn't work that way.

I'm quite sure you've made an ID over there to lurk anyway...

I missed the awesome and witty part.  Could you point it out for those of us that were absent for that part of school?

  • Nope.  Don't know her, and don't really care.

I don't know what you're talking about trying too hard.  I'm just enjoying a nice glass of milk and looking at some stuff on here.  I couldn't care less one way or the other what a bunch of 1st tri people think of me.  Or where ever you're from.  It doesn't show your tickers on here when replying and I'm not willing to retype this if the back button clears it.

You see... I do and say what I want.  If people don't like it, and they generally don't, they can ignore it or biitch about it.  You've clearly chosen the latter.

Good luck with that.  Nothing on this board will ever upset me because I can differentiate between important and bump-drama.
