how big is your baby?

Just came from growth measurement sonogram at 27 weeks 4 days. Sonographer says baby weighs 2 pounds 8 ounces. Is that big? Everything I've read indicates about 2 pounds 2 ounces at 28 weeks so 2 pounds 8 ounces is significantly larger. She said her measurements are on target and my due date is the same.

I always thought I'd have a petite baby. Guess not =)

How much does your baby weigh now?

Re: how big is your baby?

  • just had my 30wk yesterday & the baby was about 3lbs 4oz, so unless i'm having a porker too, you sound like you're on track.

  • Not a clue.  My dr. hasn't done any testing and hasn't mentioned that we will in the future and of course, I haven't asked.  Are these tests routine for every pregnancy or is it different for every doctor?
Well, we're on our way to 3 kids, 3 and under.

  • At 29w6d my baby was measuring 3 lb 6 oz, which is about a week ahead
  • At 26 weeks and 3 days he was 2 pounds. They said he was right on track.

I have weekly growth ultrasounds because I have GD,I would not have had any ultrasounds after the anatomy scan if I was not high risk

  • Every baby is different--if they weren't, every baby born at the same duration would have the same weight, length, etc. Per several u/s LO was 5 days behind our IUI date during most of 1st tri when variations are much smaller. In late 2nd tri, based on fundal height, I was 2 weeks ahead for a month. Another u/s confirmed he is still his "normal" 5-day-behind self. My last fundal height put me about a week behind. I just figure, he grows when he wants to grow! I never know when he's just had a growth spurt or is just about to.

The same goes for me.  We had our last ultra sound at 29 weeks 3 days and he was 3.28 pounds.

  • Not to mention your sonographer saying that her measurements are "right on" aren't exactly correct.  Those weights are notorious for being as much as 2 lbs off....its all just an estimate.  And babies all grow at different rates now, so as long as they think baby is in a normal range, there is nothing to worry about!
  • @ 23 weeks mine was 1.5lbs and she said that was on the larger side of normal. I don't know what the current estimate is.

Keep in mind these are estimates and they are off all the time.

  • I haven't had an ultrasound since August, but my uterus is measuring right on target, and DD is filling it real nice. I get one more ultrasound before I have her, it'll be a growth ultrasound closer to the end of the 3rd tri.
  • Mine was estimated to be the same weight as yours at about the same time based on u/s results.  Seems high to me too, but its really just an estimate.  They can't tell weight based on u/s with any real accuracy.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • we had our folllow-up u/s yesterday (29wk 2d) and baby was measuring 3.3 pounds, which i thought was a LOT, but the tech said is right within range (about 50th %ile for this point), and when i looked it up on here, the range was 2.5-3.8 pounds for 29 weeks.  so i feel better, except for the fact that the weight is supposed to triple from here on out!!  eek!

  • at 27 weeks LO weighed in at 2 lbs 6 oz and I was told that was 58th percentile.  The charts online make it look like I'm having a porker but they said she was a great size so far
  • At my f/u anatomy scan last week at 26w1d he measured 2lbs2oz.

  • My growth u/s is not until 32 weeks, but my fundal measurement was right on target last week.

  • I had an U/S at 26w4d and they said around 2.5 lbs.  Which they said was slightly big, but still within normal.

  • I had an ultrasound at 26 weeks and he was 2 pounds 3 ounces. I'm 29 weeks 2 days and I wouldn't doubt if captain chunker has hit the 3 pound mark already.
