  • I'm probably of no help since I never used a home doppler but whenever I've had a doppler used on me the first thing we hear is the wooshing sound and the midwife always points out that I have an active baby because the wooshing is the little one moving around. Than after that we hear the heart beat. It's definitely a heartbeat when we hear it and different from the wooshing.

Oh, and I wasn't able to hear the heartbeat until about 18 weeks but I have heard of girls hearing the heartbeat anywhere from where you are to where I am :)

  • ditto pp, sounds like you may not have hit the exact spot to get the heart beat but that you may have heard your little one swimming around!
  • The h/b sort of sounds like galloping hooves.  Was it that fast?

Does the doppler have a display?  The baby's h/b should be over 100 bpm.

I could find it intermittently in week 10, but not very well until about 11 and a half.  Don't stress about it if you aren't sure.  It should be reassuring, rather than stressing!

  • yeah, i was listening for galloping hooves!  but now that we are talking about it, it was definitely more of a swooshing.  so if it is swooshing around, at least he/she is moving and there IS a heartbeat somewhere, right?  is swooshing good at least? hmmm....maybe i should try again. i found the swooshing pretty easily. i went super slow.
  • hey girl, how are you?

You might have been listening to your own HB.  it sounds a lot more like swishing when it's in your stomache. The baby's heartbeat will be REALLY low ...REALLY low.  And very fast...

I love my dopplar- you will have lots of fun with it!

  • IMO swooshing is awesome :)

I remember hearing about how one girl thought she was going really slow but found out she wasn't going slow enough. Just be patient and don't overdo it and stress yourself out. There's a baby in there and you're going to hear the heartbeat.

::: heartbeat hearing dust headed your way:::

    There, that should help.
