BAD diaper rash-HELP!

DS is teething and has the acidic poop. His diaper rash is so bad that its on the verge of bleeding Sad. I have used Butt Paste, A&D, and Burt's Bees diaper cream- its just getting worse! I had him on his changing table for 10-15 mins without his diaper-no help... any ideas? The poor guy's pooping like 10 times (maybe less) a day...

*Note* Burt's Bees is the worst- I think it stung him when I put it on

  • Have you tried Triple Paste? It works so well for us.

This is what we use too - it's pricey but works wonders....GL!

  • Mix equal parts of Aquaphor and Maalox together. Apply carefully to diaper rash then keep the extra in the fridge. With each diaper change switch back and forth between that mix and straight Aquaphor. If possible, only use soft wet cloths to clean your LO-regular wipes could sting and hurt. I swear by this mixture. It did wonders for a terrible rash K had back in the day and you will notice some improvement within 24 hours usually. GL!
  • if it is bumpy, it is likely yeast from the excessive moisture. We use nystatin (or an over the counter yeast treatment if fine) and then cover it with a thick coat of desitin. It always works

  • We've been dealing with this too! It's so painful for them... poor little babies! We ended up getting a prescription cream for DD (hers is yeast- if there are red spots that are not attached to each other it might be yeast). I find it helps a lot when I blow dry her after every diaper change. Also I find that using wipes irritates it and hurts. I've been using water and toilet paper (pain in the ass but has really helped and not painful for her). GL.
  • DS was like that, too.  The dr. said to mix equal parts of desitin max strength, hydrocortisone cream, and lotrimine.  It worked wonders.
  • I bath DS and let him be nude for as long as possible before putting anything on his bottom.  He also gets that problem, poor boys, and it's not just on his bottom, but it gets on his boy parts too.  =(  Ouch.  But, after I've washed him, let him be nude for as long as I can brave it with the carpet cleaner close at hand and a cloth diaper to mop up any accidents, then I put butt paste on it and give him Tylenol.

Leaving him nude for as long as possible after bath without any type of cream on is key.  If you don't bath him, but put cream on, it tends to lock the acidic stuff in.  Good luck.

  • IMO part of the problem is the amount of poop, and acidity... have you tried changing his diet a bit, more bland foods? DD just went through this for the past 2 weeks and it's finally healed... open air, bathing and blotting dry, and keep putting rash cream on as a barrier... GL, hope it clears soon!

    ditto

  • Also do a baking soda sitz bath aciuple times a day.
  • We used Aquaphor at diaper changes and Aveeno Soothing Bath Treatment.  It has colloidal oatmeal and seemed to instantly reduce the redness.  They worked for us.

You should really try triple paste. I definitely works for DD!

  • oh poor DD suffered this when her molars came in...

we did A&D then topped it off with baby powder...also smeared her with A&D before her bath.

Doc suggested we lay off the sugars (fruit/applesauce ETC) until it cleared up. We eventually ended up with a presctiption cream.

  • Have him take a long soak in the tub, then dry him off and let him sit on the towel on the couch or something for awhile (naked).

Then smother his booty with Dr. Smiths diaper cream (I swear by this stuff, but I can't always find it)

You might want to do a couple of baths a day until it clears up. I find it really helps to wash off all of that acidy residue.

  • We went to the pedi when Bryce had diaper rash like this and they perscribed an awesome diaper rash cream for us. I don't remember what it's called becuase I don't have the tube right in front of me, but it worked like a charm! It was like instant relief.
