I ask this in all sincerity, and I'm sure I'll get ripped apart for it, but eh well. I've never been torn apart on here, and after 2000 posts I guess it's about time..
I'm trying to word this so I don't sound puppies and rainbows or cry-baby-ish, because honestly I'm not upset...just reflective:
Would you poke fun of bumpies from other religions like you do christians?
Would you 1-star a "Muslim check-in"? --- that happens every week to the christian check-in, btw
Would you crack a joke about an Orthodox Jewish bumpie's belief that the Torah is God's infallible holy word?
Would you start a whole thread about a Native American bumpie's belief in a Creator under the guise of "educate me" but then poke fun at the bumpie's beliefs?
I don't think you would, and I'm pretty sure you would (hopefully) flame anyone who did.
Re: Is there a double standard toward Christians on this board?
Hmm. I understand where you are coming from, but I don't really think anyone is making fun of the religion itself. I think they are just trying to be funny, and people have different senses of humor.

I'm LDS (or mormon if you prefer) I don't ever poke fun at others religions and I don't say anything about Christians (which unlike most believe I AM a Christian) some people honestly want to know and you're always going to be dogged on no matter what you believe.
This post is like saying you know if someone white says something racist they are immediately jumped on but if someone of a different race said something about whites it's laughed at as a joke. Double standards are everywhere and you just have to learn to look past them!
Well this is not actually your board so maybe that's part of the problem? I do not think that a few people's ignorant decisions and or views should be viewed as a "board view".
Personally I am a Christian... but I don't think this is the place I would choose for a "christian check in". Maybe if that is what you are looking for another site/board would be a better fit?

This, and I think Sassy was actually curious. She's proven herself to be open to listening to other people's opinions and changing her own.

I think there is, yes. An old boyfriend had a Jesus fish on his car and when I lightheartedly made fun of him for it he said "You know, an awful lot of people bring that fish up, but I never bring up anything they put on THEIR cars" and all of a sudden I realized I was judging him for it, because Christians supposedly judge others outside of their faith.
I was judging him in retaliation for... judging. I think a lot of people think of Christians as close minded or ignorant people but you should not do that.
To assume that one person is 100%, stereotypically representative of the faith they represent is as discriminatory as assuming that a minority is 100% stereotypically representative of their race.
No one is making fun of Christianity as a religion.
People do make fun of others' interpretation (bastardization) of it.
I agree

lol I knew someone would say that. I'm actually referring to TB as a whole, not just 6-9. My daughter was born 60 days late I guess.
FWIW, I don't usually participate in the Christian check-in, but I do read them. And as I said in the OP, I'm not upset, heck, I'm not even offended really, just making an observation.

Like white people, middle class men and Americans in general, right? I'm sorry, anyone who thinks that Christians in America are marginalized in some way is out of her mind.

It must be so difficult to be part of the majority! To be part of an oppressed, downtrodden group that only controls every major branch of our government and is represented in disproportionately large numbers in every facet of our nation's life from government to schools to business!
I'm no theologian. But, Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the only son of God, born of the Virgin Mary, crucified, died & was buried. He ascended into heaven...etc, etc. It is my understanding that this is not quite the same believe of the LDS religion.
I suggest you actually learn something about the LDS religion, then. I'm not LDS, but even I know that Mormons believe all of the above. They also believe that Christ did other things on Earth after he ascended into heaven, which is where much of the confusion over are-Mormons-Christians question occurs.
