diaper rash, food sensitivity?

My baby has gotten 2 diaper rashes since she was born. She is 5 weeks old today. Both times it has been all of a sudden, after one diaper change she has a red bump. It takes a couple days to go away. I have been using zinc oxide cream. I can't figure out what is causing it. When it happens she hasn't sat in her diaper any longer than normal or necessary. I try to change them as soon as possible. The only thing I can think is maybe a food sensitivity? She is exclusively breast fed. Is this possible? I have read about dairy allergies but I have milk and yogurt every day and she doesn't seem to have a problem. I was wondering if tomatoes could do this through my breast milk? I can't remember for sure if it was right before the diaper rash or not but I had pasta a few days ago and then she got the diaper rash. I can't remember if I had pasta or tomatoes before the first diaper rash when she was 2 weeks old or not. But I am wondering if this is possible?

Any one have good recommendations on what to use make the rash go away quick?

Re: diaper rash, food sensitivity?

  • DD has really sensitive skin and gets rashes.  We changed to chlorine free diapers and wipes (7th Gen), which has helped.  For creams, I would experiment with a few to see what works.  Butt Paste works for DD.  I had also tried Aveeno, Nature's Baby, and A&D.

As far as your diet goes - I'm not sure.  With DD, I just figured that rashes happen sometimes.  I have very sensitive skin, so I just figured she's like her mama.  GL!

  • My DD had rash issues too and as soon as  I switched diapers it went away.  I was using pamper swaddlers and this was around the time they were sneaking the dry max into the packages I am pretty sure she got a package of unmarked dry max.  I only say this because as soon as I switched diapers it went away but when I used some of the leftovers from the package it came back.  I used old non-drymax swaddlers and sensitive one without drymax and she was fine.
