I never thought I'd be asking about Ferber

but I've read so many baby sleep books and nothing is helping. DS still wakes up at least every 2 hours. Lately he has been up 8-10 times a night. I'm in the process of reading Ferber but I'm curious for moms who have done it re:night feedings. Has extending night feedings by 30 minutes helped? How does it work if your childs wakings are sporadic? DS wakes up frequently but you never know when it's going to happen (aside from the normal sleep transition wakings). Sometimes he wakes to eat an entire bottle, sometimes he just wants to be comforted, and other times he wants the bottle but doesn't eat anything. I guess I'm just nervous. I don't want to let him cry but I'm at the end of my rope.
Re: A question for Ferber moms...
When did Ferber's moving a night feeding method (the 30 min. thing you mentioned), I was fully prepared for it to be awful and take 1.5+ weeks. It took two nights. TWO. And he dropped all but 1 feeding on his own. It was amazing! Give it a chance.
ETA - during the 30 minutes before I would let him eat, I was carrying him, dancing, humming, etc. He really didn't cry for more than 5 of the 30 minutes.
That's awesome! Thank you for giving me some hope! I'm pretty sure I'm imagining it being a lot worse than it will really be. I think your post has given me the motivation to make my first attempt tonight.
I definitely think that he is waking because he is used to it and then once he's awake he needs a bottle to go back to sleep. So many things ran true when I was reading Ferber that I feel like I owe it to both of us to give it a good try.
Aw, thanks! I like to think so but I'm a little biased. I love your daughter and her beautiful cheeks!
I'm late to this, but Ferber has completely worked for us. DD used to be up more for comfort, but I would nurse her and wound up being stuck in the bed with her all night.
Now, I only go in and feed her once a night, usually around 4am (she goes to bed around 7pm). Any other time she wakes up, she puts herself back to sleep and might cry for a minute or 2.
It sounds like he just has the sleep association of waking up and getting a bottle. He's probably not actually hungry. I think you'll be surprised at how well he does - the first night DD went from 8pm - 3am, and I probably didn't need to feed her then, but I was worried and I did.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

Thank you! I might PM you tomorrow with questions depending on how tonight goes. I will say that he went down around 7:00 and it's now 10:45. He woke up once but just fussed for a few minutes then fell back asleep.
It kind of feels like sleep training applies more to me than it does him. I have to train myself not to just go in there every time he fusses.
