Didn't someone post about losing weight fast?

I don't remember if it was on this board, or another one, but someone posted about needing to lose a significant amount of weight in a few weeks. A lot of people recommended the hcg diet.

I'd like to hear from someone who tried it whether it worked or not, and where you got your stuff from.

Are there any other diets like that out there? I'm looking for a healthy, fast way to lose weight after Max is here. I plan on exercising, but I'll need something extra too.

  • anything healthy isnt going to allow you to loose a significant amt of weight in just a few weeks.

Generally 1-2 lbs a week is considered healthy.

Yeah I'm not talking a few weeks. I guess I said that in my OP. I just need something to help for the long run. It's going to be winter and I won't be able to get outside to exercise a lot I'm sure. I can't ever stick to an exercise DVD, and we don't have a gym membership anymore. So I was just wanting something healthy to help out a little... if that exists?

  • When I read posts like this I cringe just b/c I really think the only way to lose weight healthy and keep it off is to permanently modify your diet choices (meaning eat well, correct portions, no fried foods, etc.) and exercise.   Ever since college I've followed the recommended eating guidelines I learned from a registered dietician and I've never gone wrong.

Also remember it took you 9 mos to put on the weight and it is natural for it to take 9 mos to get the weight off.  Try not to put so much pressure on yourself!  Having a new baby and a toddler will be trying enough Wink

  • I just started doing Weight Watchers. I've known a few people that have done it and had great results!

Yeah, I've heard that. I just know with my history with weight and eating problems, if I don't see results, I'm really tempted to revert to "old ways". If I have to take a supplement to keep from reverting, I will... Tongue Tied

  • I am BFing so that helps, but running after a toddler and having a newborn worked for me.   I am 10lb below my pre-pg weight. I was at my pre-pg weight by 2.5 months.   I BFed DS1 and kept 10-15lbs on for a year after him.

  • I started Weight Watchers last Nov and wanted to lose 20lbs by May I was down 20lbs and now I am down 25lbs and lost the last 5lbs in the maintance phase of the program. I do weigh myself a few times a week and have learned that I do flucuate about 2-3 lbs during the week. If I see myself creeping I sit to the plan perfect and it comes right back off. I have stayed within 5lbs since I reached it. I was a size 10-12 postpreg and most of my life since end of hs and am not a size 4-6 mostly 4 :)

My sister has been doing it for about 6 months now and she has lost 30lbs.

  • Try P90x.  We are just starting it.  Our friend started it in January and I think he has lost around 40 pounds now.  He has modified his diet and works out at least 5 days a week.

I'm definitely not on the right board, but I just wanted to say how great Sparkpeople is!  I've used it on a few occasions, and it always works!  I treat the accountability like a game and I don't feel deprived at all!

  • I don't think of this as a quick fix, but the South Beach Diet works wonders for me. I feel like I just have the body type that hangs on to carbs or something. I like SBD because it teaches you healthy eating habits. It's not like Atkins that encourages full fat butter, mayo, etc.  It only feels like a "diet" the first 2 weeks because it is strict about what you can and can't eat (no dairy and no fruit are the toughest ones for me- breakfasts can get really monotonous). But those 2 weeks are a wake up call about what types of things are healthier than others. If I follow it religiously I'm practically gauranteed to lose 2 lbs a week.

This and a 500 calorie diet.  It's terribly unhealthy.  a friend is doing it and lost some weight, but gains it back the second she's off of it.

The answer isn't a "supplement" though - most are just downright dangerous (as in can cause heart issues or even death).  Fad diets are equally bad and not a long term solution.

Maybe seeing a nutritionist would be a better course of action if you feel you have a history of eating issues.  And make it a family thing - don't bring "bad" foods in the house (or at least keep them very much in moderation).

Not sure what part of the country you live in, but walking can be done in even cold weather - and with kids in tow unless we are talking uber cold.  If it's that cold or icy out, there's always the laps at the mall option (again, easy to take the kids along).  Or invest in a treadmill for your home.  Exercise HAS to be part of a healthy lifestyle - no weight loss is going to stick without it.

Remember, this isn't just about you anymore.  You have a responsibility to set a healthy example - both in eating and exercise - for your kids too.  Please don't resort to supplements or fad diets.

OMG, my favorite linguist returns. Yay!

Gracie, try Weight Watchers if you've never tried that. It's slow and steady but what I love about it is that it's flexible enough to fit anyone's lifestyle, and I think that's what wins in the long run. I've lost 7.8 pounds in about 6 weeks. But I feel great, I feel healthier, and I feel like this is something I can keep on doing.

I've found that meetings are helpful for a number of reasons, and I've met some really fun people through them, but keep in mind that the leader makes a bigger difference than you'd expect. I wish everyone could have their meetings with my leader, Courtney. She's awesome!
