Babies: 9 - 12 Months

If LO is taking 1 nap, when is it??

Ethan will only take one nap and am curious if your LO does and when. He usually takes it around 11:30-12:30 and sometimes wakes up between 1:30 and 3. But usually its earlier like 1:30 or 2 and I didn't think he could go to 7:30 but he does. I try to put him down for that 2nd nap and he wants nothing to do with it.

So when is your LO's nap??

Thanks!

Re: If LO is taking 1 nap, when is it??

  • What time does E wake up? He is only 10 mo right? He should definitely (In my opinion) be on 2 naps.

Lucy wakes around 630, takes her first nap at 930 and has sometimes been going for 2+ hours

Then goes down for nap #2 at around 230-330 depending on how the first nap went.

So I think she is slowly phasing to one nap  (which I would like to keep her on 2 as long as possible)

But I'd say 11-12 is probably a good start time depending on the length of the nap

Well a few days he slept from 730 to 9am. The last few days he has slept til 7am. He doesn't want to go down for that second nap and he ended up sitting in his crib today for 45 min.

  • If it were me, I'd put him down 3 hours after he wakes up (for the day) and go from there.

PS Lucy and I missed seeing you and E today at TJ's!

  • Aww I was there yesterday!!! :) I want to see her! She is getting so big!

I will try strict 3 hours and see how it goes.

He was still taking 3 naps like 2 months ago!

  • Ophelia will  only take one nap and it's been that way since she was about 6 months old.  It works out great for us though.  She gets up when we get up (I don't know what time she wakes up as she's usually awake playing in her crib) around 7am.  She generally goes down for her nap between 10:30-12 and sleeps for about 2 hours.  She goes to bed around 7-7:30pm.

well you don't have to be strict but I think it's a good number to work with for the firs nap. Then depending how long he sleeps he will likely NEED a 2nd nap.

She is getting big, walking ALL over the place and making friends with all the people that are shopping at the same time

  • My baby started taking 1 nap around 10 months - I'd put her down around 3 hours after she woke up and she'd just play in her crib for an hour. At daycare she was resisting her first nap too (it had just gotten shorter and shorter - 20 mins or so - and then she just started standing up and yelling) so she just does the same schedule the toddlers/little kids at daycare do - quiet time from 12-3.

We probably COULD have kept her at 2 naps if she was at home, but she wasn't going to take a morning nap when no one else was at daycare, so we just went with it. Her nap at home is usually 12:30-2:30 or so.

Ok thanks for the info guys! Thinking about what you said, E was fighting the second nap for weeks now and I had to rock and rock for like an hour for him to sleep like 30 min. He was tired but just didn't want to. Well I finally didn't fight him on Sunday and he's refused now. I just listen to his cues usually when he wants to sleep. We'll see how tomorrow goes.

It was nice when he'd get up at 9 and go down at 12:30 and wake up at 2:30 or 3 which I thought was a better time that 1:30! But I don't decide LOL

  • I did definitely have to help her stay awake until 12:30 for the first few days - we did outings around 10am, which helped a ton - but no long car rides because she'd fall asleep. Now she's completely fine until 12:30, and often stays awake until 1.
  • Around 6 months Riley was sleeping 8P to 8A and taking one long nap around 1P.  It was normally 2-3 hours and I loved it.  Then she went back to a short (45 min) AM nap and longer (90 min) afternoon one.  Now she seems to again be doing one!  She sleeps 12 hours at night and takes a 2-3 hour nap starting between 11 and 12.  Bedtime is generally 7:30-8.  I was told as long as she isn't cranky/showing signs of being tired and getting an average of 14 hours sleep in a 24 hour period it's fine to take only one nap.
