Parenting after a Loss

jump or stationary?

what are your experiences? we're debating between getting a doorway jumper (like the Jump and Go by Evenflo) or a stationary entertainment thingy (Exersaucer)..

what are your thoughts - do you like them, does your little one like them? We have an older house, and with the thresholds and whatnot, I'm not sure if a "walker" would be a good thing... but I want some sort of entertainment/learning toy where Cole will be more upright..

Re: jump or stationary?

  • We have the fisherprice precious planet jumperoo. It is the same as a stationary exercauser except it allows him to jump. He loves it. I think he started in it around 4 months and loved it and still sometimes wants to get in it now and jump. https://reviews.fisher-price.com/6194/47266/reviews.htm

Oh, and it folds up (if you unconnect the legs) pretty flat. We've taken it on road trips with us to keep him entertained.

After that, we got one of these and it was nice so he could practice walking/running:

  • What about a compromise between the two like a jumperoo?  That way he can jump if he wants, but there are also toys to play with.

We have this one and Logan loves it -- though he's really more into the toys than he is into jumping.

One thing I have noticed is that the Ocean one seems taller than this (very similar) Rainforest one.  My sister has the Rainforest one and Logan can touch the ground just fine, but with our ocean one, we have to put a book under his feet.

  • We have 3 different ones due to hand me downs. We have a johnny jumper in the door, a jummping exersaucer and a stationary one as well.

When he was smaller he liked the stationary one to just hang out and "sit up" Now he loves to jump, in both of the jummpy ones. The in the door one works great for dinner time. he just hangs out wile i cook.  I actually just put him in te stationary one yesterday just for a change.... and he just sat there and looked at me like i was crazy.

If i was going to buy one i would say go with jumper. I think it will last longer as a form of entertainment. My 15 month old nephew actually used aydens jumper until he got big enough to use it.

  • After looking up the evenflo jumper thing, I think you'll be much, much happier getting a jumperoo or exercauser instead. That thing doesn't have many toys on it and doesn't look like it will hold his interest very long.

Haha..we had to do this too. Dylan was in the 95th percentile and we still had to use a pillow under his feet for a month or so. It is pretty tall. I remember at first he would reach for the banana but not touch it. A few months ago, he could grab the banana and monkey and he would chew on them. Now we removed them because they hung in his face he is so tall.

and also the good old Johnny Jump up for portable upstairs play for when I'm cooking or taking a shower (since it's only $20 it's not a big deal to get that too):
