2nd Trimester

A note about 2nd tri "meanies"

I've been lurking on this board for about a month now. I'll be honest, when I first started reading I was shocked at how "rude" or "mean" some of the posters were. But the more I read, the more I started to see a pattern: If you say something stupid, ignorant, or repetitive, then you are going to get called out! If you claim that you have the cure for stretch marks, or that vaccines cause autism, or that you felt your baby move at 2.5 weeks, then you are NOT going to get a very positive response. And to be honest, I think it is positively REFRESHING to see people that are spouting misinformation get called out.

And this is why everyone tells you to lurk before you post. Because you will realize that 99% of the time, posts are pregnancy related and people are supportive and helpful (yes, even the meanies). But if you're going to post on this board, you *have* to have a sense of humor, and if you say something stupid then you can expect a snarky response back.

  • Well said mama.  This is my second baby while on the bump.  I was not an active poster for DD.  Lurking helps a lot.

  • Exactly! Also, it helps to write clearly, and really try to think how a post will be read. I have no problem at all with people who have very different parenting methods that I have (or plan to have), but if their post is written with a tone that makes one method seem superior (and, likewise, one method sound harmful without thinking it through), there's a gonna' be a storm a brewin'.

  • I like this.

  • Well, thank you for all of the positive responses (I wasn't sure how this post would go over)! It was just getting so frustrating seeing how many people immediately get offended as soon as they come over to this board. I felt like something needed to be said, from a fellow newbie/lurker perspective.

  • Amen! Preach it sister! I have rarely seen anyone snarked at who didn't earn it.

Sorry ladies, I'll have to pass on the cookie because I've already gained 1.25 pounds and I am cutting out carbs and sugar for the rest of my pregnancy.

Maybe you can offer it to one of the fatties instead? I hear that most of the people on this board are huge fatties that eat by the truckload...

Yes I am also a lurker. It's kind of fun to watch people get flamed for asking stupid questions. :)

  • Agree, but I think you've got a little something on your nose there

Well this "fatty" is more then happy to keep the cookies to myself.

  • I do agree with most of that...but sometime people are just asking for honest opinions and people are just plain rude about it...you can give an opinion even with humor in it without being rude...im sure this will get some comments Smile

Well, considering you agree with her, you might want to clean your nose off, too.

  • I have to respectfully disagree. There's a difference between clarifying with tact and being snarky. Too often on the bump, people hide behind their computers and say things on thebump that IRL they would never say. It gets old.

Oh please.  If it's 'old' then feel free to move on to baby-gaga.com.  And yes, I would absolutely say that to your face.

Ahhh I had a whole response typed and my computer crapped out. OK here I go again....

    Not flaming you, but...

I'm sure that SOME of the girls on here find courage behind their computer screens. I don't think that you can say who is doing that and who isn't without knowing that person IRL.  I'm sorry, but I get a little tired of the excuse that some of us say things because we're hiding behind our bump screens. I am not a fake person. I believe that when it comes to me what you see is what you get. I am not a fake person, and who I am on the bump is exactly who I am IRL. So please stop assuming that the really snarky ladies are all flowers and roses IRL. If their anything like me, they aren't.
