2nd Trimester

Bump not growing "upwards"...

I can't believe I'm posting about this so please don't flame. I have also gained more than 1 pound so I'm not complaining about overall weight gain. I still feel LO very low and I feel like all my bump is below my belly button. Everyone I know keeps telling me I don't look pregnant, I just look like I put on 10 pounds in my hips. I've been brushing off the comments because I keep thinking that any day my belly will "round out" but when you hear these comments all the time it gets in your head. I'm just worried that my uterus isn't growing "upwards" the way I see in all the pregnancy photos/illustrations. Please tell me I'm not alone. Yes, I know this is silly.

Re: Bump not growing "upwards"...

  • Is your doc concerned? If s/he hasn't expressed a concern about it, I wouldn't worry. At this point if your uterus wasn't growing properly I'm sure you would have heard something from your doc.

  • Maybe you're just gonna carry low? If it helps at all, my mom says she never got a bump, just looked kinda chubby all over. :( Most of the time she says people didn't even know she was pregnant. Maybe you will just be one of the unfortunate who dont get a little bump to show off. If your doc isnt worried, I wouldnt worry either. HTH!

  • I agree to ask your doc. They'll probably start measuring you soon (my doc did this for the first time at 24ish weeks). Ask if s/he is concerned.

If not, you're probably just carrying low. I'm carrying high. Everyone is so different. But I wouldn't lose sleep over it at this point. After all, you don't actually know how much your uterus has grown just by looking at your midsection.

  • If your dr. is not concerned you shouldn't be!  It may sound like an old wives tale but I carried my 1st, 2nd and 3rd "low" and they were all boys!
  • everyone carries different.  Every pregnancy is different.  Maybe your baby will always stay down low, maybe not, but it shouldn't be something to be worried about.

  • i'm the same way now at 18 weeks.  I like looking at it after I eat a meal, my belly looks a little rounder :)  But when I wake up, or if i haven't eaten much, I just have a gut  :(  I'm hoping it will really pop soon!

  • I'm 24 weeks today and feel the exact same way.  I thought my uterus would at least be above my belly button by now, but my doc says I'm growing fine so I'm not worrying.  It would be nice to have a cute little bump though...instead of love handles and a poochSad
  • I'm going through the same thing, with only 101 days left yesterday people were telling me that if they didn't know I was pregnant, they wouldn't have been able to tell :(

  • Do you have a long torso?  I do and carried ds REALLY low.  My belly did grow but I had a lot more space between my boobs and belly than some do and I always just attributed it to having a long torso.  The only downside was I always felt like he was just going to fall out, lol.
