I am so undecided on DS big gift for his birthday and Christmas. I am thinking table & chairs, PB Anywhere Chair (or something similiar), ball pitt, ....the llist grows and changes daily.
What are you doing?

I just went a little nuts at Toys 'R Us this afternoon. They're having a big Fisher Price sale -- buy 2 get 1 free. I got the Laugh & Learn House, the Little People Nativity set, and the Laugh & Learn steering wheel. I was even able to us a 20% off BRU coupon on the house -- saved $17!!
For Christmas we're getting him the PBK Turner toy chest.
For her birthday we got PBK Anywhere Chair, Step2 Wagon, Step2 50's diner, Fisher Price Tea Set, Fisher Price Rumble Driver, Hokey Pokey Elmo, Beauty and the Beast DVD with all the plush characters and Belle doll, stuffed monkey, Boikido counting station, boikido wooden pull mouse, boikido push wagon, fisher price chatter phone.
So far for Christmas all we have gotten is the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Home. We are going to wait to see what she gets for her birthday before doing any Christmas shopping.
DD is getting the FP Learning Home, a baby doll (Baby Stella) and the FP stroller/walker, and Mega Bloks.
I feel bad that I haven't gotten her more. I want to give her these items for Christmas, so maybe I'll get her something different for her b-day. I really would love her get her a SmartTrike.

Holy crap that's a LOT of stuff!!!!! Seriously, save your money.....babies get overwhelmed by too much stuff sometimes....
We are going to get her the Fisher Price Learning Home. She got it for her birthday but we returned it. I'm thankful for the generosity of our friends and family but she received way too much stuff for her birthday so we returned it and plan to get it in a couple months.
Is it bad that I wasn't planning to get her anything? I know she's going to get plenty from friends and family for both Christmas and her birthday. I will probably buy her a few clothing items that she needs and maybe transfer a couple hundred to her college fund.

I thought the same thing!! As first I thought you meant those were all the gifts she received from fam/friends, but then I realized you bought them all. What else is there that she could even get as gifts? I would seriously consider returning some and saving it for the future.

I guess this is why I am having problems deciding on a gift. We don't have a lot of space and I do not want my son to more toys then he will ever use. I am leaning toward getting him table & chairs and books, blocks, puzzles. I am sure our family will have a lot to add to the mix.

Not at all.
We are doing a ride on/push toy for Xmas and PBK Anywhere chair for his Bday. And some small stocking stuffers - socks, books, etc. That's about it. He will get tons of toys, books and everything else from family and friends.

Some things she will have to grow into anyway so it will kind of be saved. For instance the 50's diner will take her some time to get the full use out of it. The wagon probably won't get used until next year as by the time her birthday comes it will probably be too cold to use outside. As far as what is left for her to get as gifts...when I was asked the other day what someone should get her I suggested puzzles or a savings bond. Her grandparents are getting her a ride on outdoor toy, which is another thing that will be saved until spring.

This. I'm trying to spread the word for family to contribute to his college fund rather than buy gifts. His birthday is a couple days before Christmas, so if people could do the fund contribution for his bday, and something small for Christmas, that'd be great. I'm not planning on getting him anything, he doesn't really need anything right now, and I know that the grandparents will likely buy him stuff.

For her birthday, we're just getting her a starter set for an add-a-pearl necklace and putting money in her college fund. Her party is going to have 50 people at it, so I'm sure she's going to get a ton of stuff there.
I really want a Step2 kitchen for her or a SmartTrike, so if she doesn't get those from one of the sets of grandparents, that's what we'll do for Christmas for her.
I know I am late to the post. We are buying DD some fish themed bath toys BUT our real gift is taking her to the aquarium. Anytime we go somewhere with a tiny aquarium she is totally spellbound by it. It has been like this since she was 6 months old. So we thought it would be appropriate.
When we were growing up my parents would sometimes give us experiences instead of stuff and I always thought it was kind of cool so we are going to do the same thing with LO.

Buried in toys
Your "buried in toys" picture is literally my nightmare. I don't have room for all that stuff.
I thought the same thing!! As first I thought you meant those were all the gifts she received from fam/friends, but then I realized you bought them all. What else is there that she could even get as gifts? I would seriously consider returning some and saving it for the future.

With our first daughter, we learned that they get overwhelmed with gifts and sort of don't care after the first item or two.
Thus, we're getting him one thing for his birthday and one for Christmas:
When his sister turned one, her hands-down favorite birthday present was a walk and ride toy like this. We'll get him one of those for sure.
For his other present, probably something small like a shape sorting cube.
And lots and lots of mylar wrapping paper to play with. Crinkles are his favorite.

I love that idea!
We are doing 1 "big" thing for each.
Birthday: Zoo Membership (we have a year round zoo)
Christmas: Either a ride on toy for the summer or a custom toy box
We are letting grandparents/family get whatever, but I asked close friends to add to her book library.
