Situation with other children while dropping off/picking up at sitter's???

Here is a situation:

Girl #1 takes Girl #2's cup to give to the sitter.  Girl #3 goes and rips the cup from Girl #1's hands.

Do you say something to Girl #3 if the sitter is not right there or would you ignore the behavior?

  • I would ignore unless one of the kids was my own.

  • If my child is involved in it I say something.  I also say something if one is getting hurt or about to get hurt.

  • If my child was Girl #1 and Girl #3 tore the cup from her. I'd tell girl #3 that you have to ask nicely and to give the cup back to Girl #1. You're setting an example for Girl #1 so I always get involved when it is other unsupervised children messing with my child.

If it is 2 kids that aren't mine I don't say anything. If DS is watching, I'll educate DS such as "We don't take things from someone else without asking."

  • Would anyone change their mind if Girl #3 is a 4 year old and Girl #1 is a 1 year old?  Girl #2 is my daughter, Girl #1 likes to be helpful and hand her cup to the sitter.  Girl #3 is constantly ripping stuff out of my daughter and the other children's hands.  Usually the sitter is right there and sees it, but sometimes she is taking my daughter's stuff in the kitchen.
