December 2010 Moms

Hospital Stays are Not Fun

I got back from the hospital last night around nine.  I had to go in on Thursday around 1 pm.  When I got there, my contractions were 1.5-2 minutes apart.  Ugh!  After pumping me full of lots of drugs and the steroid shots for LO's lungs, I'm home.  (We did narrowly avoid the magnesium, but that's next up if need be.)  The doctor is focused on getting us to 32 weeks.

I'm on strict bedrest, but the worst part is the crazy anxiety.  I hate not being in control of my body at this momentous time.  I'm trying very hard to stay positive, but it's tough!  Good news is the baby is healthy so far.

I hope this makes sense.  I'm on hardly any sleep and 5 mgs of terbutaline every 3 hours (this is moved up from every 4 hours) and it's got me all jittery and backwards again.

Ts&Ps appreciated.

  • :-( I'm thinking and praying for you and your LO. It is really hard when you feel like your body is just doing whatever it wants and you have no control over it. You and I just need to accept that we are doing what we can, we're being proactive to make sure everything is being done for our LO's that can possibly be done and as a Mom- I think that's what it's all about. We'll never be able to control every single thing... we just have to have faith that we are doing the best we can.

  • T&P are with you!  Sorry to hear about your rough few nights. Let's hope LO stays cooking a little while longer.

I think these Dec Babies are getting confused and need a calendar to realize that it's not December yet!!!

  • That sounds really miserable.  Sending good thoughts your way...

Yes, you're right!  It's like the hardest time ever for these issues (even more than it obviously would be no matter what) because of this stupid remodel and my husband is having GI tract issues which leave him feeling totally miserable as well.  Add to the fact that we moved to PHX only about 6 mos ago and it's a wee bit overwhelming.

You are absolutely right about doing the best we can, that's all we can do.  It's so awesome that you are past 32 weeks!!!  I cannot wait to get there, I feel like that would take a load off my mind just knowing that past that point, we should all be in pretty good shape even if s/he does insist on coming out early ;)

Good luck and keep me posted, if you facebook and want to be friends, send me a PM and let me know how to find you ;)  I'm buried, haha.  Thanks for your positive thoughts, I really appreciate them.

Yikes!  It sounds like you had a rough night.  But I'm glad that your LO is staying put, at least for now.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that you make it to 32 weeks and even beyond!

Thank you!!!  I'm glad I'm not in a hospital bed anymore, those things just aren't comfy!

    Thank you for your thoughts!

  • aww i'm sorry, sounds like you had a rough few days! positive thoughts.. will send T&P to you and your little one. hang in there.
  • I'm so sorry to hear of all that you are going through. Please know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Bed rest is probably not the greatest thing to do but I hope you can make the best of it. Maybe watch some favorite movies or tv seasons, read some good books, catch up on a lot of sleep. I'll be praying for your hubby too with his GI issues. It seems like ya'll are facing a lot but hang in there! You're doing an amazing mommy job!
  • Sending thoughts and prayers your way! Hopefully you make it to 32 weeks or beyond. I just got out of the hospital on Monday after being pumped full of mag sulfate for 3 days. So not fun but TOTALLY worth it for him to stay in a little longer. Hang in there!

  • Ooh, I'm so sorry, sending good thoughts your way!  Maybe you can compartmentalize the next few weeks kind of like your post about compartmentalizing your day to help the time pass.  Just think about getting through one day at a time, instead of imagining the next few weeks stretching out in front of you, and maybe it will help some with the anxiety.  I know when the docs thought it was a very real possibility that I was going to have LO back in August, I was a mess for weeks, and just couldn't fathom being in that sort of anxiety/crazy limbo-land for weeks on end.  It helped (when I was able to do it) trying to not think any further ahead than today.   T&Ps coming your way!!!

  • sending you thoughts and prayers!  im glad you and baby are still ok and i hope baby keeps baking til 32 wks (and hopefully longer)!
  • Sucks that you had to go back to the hospital, and I also hate not being in control, so I can only imagine the level of anxiety you're feeling.  Just try, as hard as it may be, to remember that you can only do what you can to help LO stay in there, with the help of your doctors.  Ts&Ps that you make it past 32 weeks!  Good Luck!
  • Yuck, sorry to hear what a rough time you're having.  Hoping your situation improves and baby stays healthy!

I had a similar experience 1.5 weeks ago and I know what you are going through.  Did you dilate or efface?  I didn't and I think that is the only reason why I am not on bedrest right now.  I did have to take terbutaline every 6 hours for 7 days after and...that is the worst medication EVER.  Terrible.  I am sorry you have to experience this.

Everything is going to be fine.

I've been on Terb for 4 weeks every four hours.  After a while, my body more or less seemed to adjust...hoping it does it now that I'm taking a larger daily dose.  I am 50% effaced, but not dialated...yet.  My baby is very, very low though, so hopefully the ol' bod can hang in there!

I'm going to blame it on the fact that holiday decorations are already up in the stores.

  • I'm sorry you're going through this - it can't be easy.  Kudos for trying to stay positive, I'm sure that's not an easy thing to do with everything that's happened.

Tell that baby to s/he needs to stay put for a while!
