need positive vibes please and anyone with advice....

so I hurt my back and today the dr prescribed flexeril.  he said I cannot nurse while taking it so I'll need to pump/dump for the next 3-4 days.  

problem is, I've always had a low supply and struggle to breastfeed all but 8oz/day. I take fenugreek and drink MMP tea.  I am hoping this little amount of non-breastfeeding time (3-4 days) isn't going to kill my BFing.  

:(   so disappointed.

    First I would find out if you really need to pump and dump.  Most doctors really have no idea what drugs are and are not safe so to cover their butts they say pump and dump.  AmyG has a copy of the Thomas Hale book I am pretty sure.  Try paging her.

    Second, I am sure you are in pain but if it truly isn't safe, I personally would not take it.  There are drugs that are safe, and I would demand my Dr, prescribe one I could take.

    if it wasn't this bad, I wouldn't take it. I cant even stand up straight. It's awful. :(

    My OB prescribed me flexeril for tension headaches and he said it is ok to use while BFing.
    DS1: 8/3/10, DD1: 8/17/13, DD2: 8/13/15

    I would talk to a lactation consultant about it and maybe have them request the doctor prescribe you something else. I can't imagine that nothing would be safe, and PPs are right saying that doctors don't necessarily know anything about BF. I was told I could take Excedrin once I gave birth and I've since learned that's not a good option while breastfeeding. I look up meds online or plan to call the lactation consults where I delivered.

    i tried blessed thistle and fenugreek together (1 pill each 3 x a day) and noticed quite an increase. maybe its worth trying. sorry for what you are going through...is there any other med similar that you could bf on?
