Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Trouble with naps

I'm coming to this board for help with my 4.5 month niece.  I watch her several days a week.

The issue is naps.  She takes 30 minute naps, that's it!  During the 9 hours I am with her she will take 3 to 4 half hour naps.  Has anyone had this problem and have any ideas on how to get her to sleep longer?

She is easy to put down, she just wakes up like clockwork.  But she wakes up happy and is ready to go!  So the lack of naps isn't affecting her mood.

Thanks!

Re: Trouble with naps

  • i just started ready Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and it says in there that some babies just take short naps and are fine with it.  and i see people on here talking about it all the time.  so it just might be your niece is one of those babies.  and i'm sure that's not what you wanted to hear.  :o)  sorry i don't have any advice!

  • I think that's the book my sister is reading.  Although I would love for her to take a long morning and afternoon nap, I was more looking for reassurance that this is okay, or ideas to change it.  My sister is a little stressed about it.

  • We just had DS's 4 month appointment last week. The pedi said it's normal for LOs this age to catnap. She said they don't nap longer until they are 6 months or so. DS is a 30-45 minute napper too.

  • My son only takes about 30-40 minute naps about 4 times a day.  Wish they were longer so this momma could have time for a nap too!
